1 Yēhéhuá xiǎoyù Móxī shuō ,

The LORD said to Moses,
2 Nǐ dǎfa rén qù kuītàn wǒ suǒ cìgĕi Yǐsèliè rén de Jiānán dì , tāmen mĕi zhīpaì zhōng yào dǎfa yī gèrén , dōu yào zuò shǒulǐng de .

“Send some men to explore the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the Israelites. From each ancestral tribe send one of its leaders.”
3 Móxī jiù zhào Yēhéhuá de fēnfu cóng Bālán de kuàngyĕ dǎfa tāmen qù . tāmen dōu shì Yǐsèliè rén de zúzhǎng .

So at the LORD’s command Moses sent them out from the Desert of Paran. All of them were leaders of the Israelites.
4 Tāmende míngzi , shǔ Liúbiàn zhīpaì de yǒu Sǎkè de de érzi Shāmǔyà .

These are their names: from the tribe of Reuben, Shammua son of Zakkur;
5 Shǔ Xīmiǎn zhīpaì de yǒu Hélì de érzi de shā fǎ .

from the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat son of Hori;
6 Shǔ Yóudà zhīpaì de yǒu Yéfúní de érzi Jiālè .

from the tribe of Judah, Caleb son of Jephunneh;

from the tribe of Issachar, Igal son of Joseph;

These are the names of the men Moses sent to explore the land. (Moses gave Hoshea son of Nun the name Joshua.)
17 Móxī dǎfa tāmen qù kuītàn Jiānán dì , shuō , nǐmen cóng nán dì shàng shān dì qù ,

When Moses sent them to explore Canaan, he said, “Go up through the Negev and on into the hill country.
18 Kàn nà dì rúhé , qízhōng suǒ zhù de mín shì jiàng shì ruò , shì duō shì shǎo ,

See what the land is like and whether the people who live there are strong or weak, few or many.
19 Suǒ zhù zhī chǔ shì hǎo shì dǎi , suǒ zhù zhī chǔ shì yíng pán shì jiān chéng .

What kind of land do they live in? Is it good or bad? What kind of towns do they live in? Are they unwalled or fortified?
20 Yòu kān nà dì tǔ shì féimĕi shì jí baó , qízhōng yǒu shùmù méiyǒu . nǐmen yào fàng kāi dǎnliàng , bǎ nà dì de guǒzi daì xiē lái . ( nàshí zhēng shì pútào chū shú de shíhou . )

How is the soil? Is it fertile or poor? Are there trees in it or not? Do your best to bring back some of the fruit of the land.” (It was the season for the first ripe grapes.)
21 Tāmen shàng qù kuītàn nà dì , cóng xún de kuàngyĕ dàoLìhé , zhídào Hāmǎkǒu .

So they went up and explored the land from the Desert of Zin as far as Rehob, toward Lebo Hamath.
22 Tāmen cóng nán dì shàng qù , dào le Xībǎilún . zaì nàli yǒu Yànà zú rén Yàxīmàn , Shìshāi , Tàmǎi . yuánlái Xībǎilún chéng beì jiànzào bǐ Āijí de suǒ Ānchéng zǎo qī nián . )

They went up through the Negev and came to Hebron, where Ahiman, Sheshai and Talmai, the descendants of Anak, lived. (Hebron had been built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.)
23 Tāmen dào le Yǐshí gè yù , cóng nàli kǎn le pútàoshù de yī zhī , shàng tóu yǒu yī guà pútào , liǎng gèrén yòng gàng tái zhe , yòu daì le xiē shíliu hé wúhuāguǒ lái .

When they reached the Valley of Eshkol, they cut off a branch bearing a single cluster of grapes. Two of them carried it on a pole between them, along with some pomegranates and figs.

That place was called the Valley of Eshkol because of the cluster of grapes the Israelites cut off there.
25 Guō le sì shí tiān , tāmen kuītàn nà dì cái huí lái ,

At the end of forty days they returned from exploring the land.
26 Dào le Bālán kuàngyĕ de Jiādīsī , jiàn Móxī , Yàlún , bìng Yǐsèliè de quánhuì zhòng , huí bào Móxī , Yàlún , bìng quánhuì zhòng , yòu bǎ nà dì de guǒzi gĕi tāmen kàn .

They came back to Moses and Aaron and the whole Israelite community at Kadesh in the Desert of Paran. There they reported to them and to the whole assembly and showed them the fruit of the land.
27 Yòu gàosu Móxī shuō , wǒmen dào le nǐ suǒ dǎfa wǒmen qù de nà dì , guǒrán shì liú nǎi yǔ mì zhī dì . zhè jiù shì nà dì de guǒzi .

They gave Moses this account: “We went into the land to which you sent us, and it does flow with milk and honey! Here is its fruit.
28 Ránér zhù nà dì de mín qiángzhuàng , chéngyì yĕ jiāngù kuān dà , bìngqiĕ wǒmen zaì nàli kànjian le Yànà zú de rén .

But the people who live there are powerful, and the cities are fortified and very large. We even saw descendants of Anak there.
29 Yàmǎlì rén zhù zaì nán dì . Hèrén , Yēbùsīrén , Yàmólìrén zhù zaì shān dì . Jiānán rén zhù zaì hǎi bian bìng Yuēdànhé páng .

The Amalekites live in the Negev; the Hittites, Jebusites and Amorites live in the hill country; and the Canaanites live near the sea and along the Jordan.”
30 Jiālè zaì Móxī miànqián ān fǔ bǎixìng , shuō , wǒmen lìkè shàng qù de nà dì ba . wǒmen zú néng déshèng .

Then Caleb silenced the people before Moses and said, “We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it.”
31 Dàn nàxiē hé tā tóng qù de rén shuō , wǒmen bùnéng shàng qù gōngjī nà mín , yīnwei tāmen bǐ wǒmen qiángzhuàng .

But the men who had gone up with him said, “We can’t attack those people; they are stronger than we are.”
32 Tànzǐ zhōng yǒu rén lún dào suǒ kuītàn zhī dì , xiàng Yǐsèliè rén bào è xìn , shuō , wǒmen suǒ kuītàn , jīngguò zhī dì shì tūn chī jūmín zhī dì , wǒmen zaì nàli suǒ kànjian de rénmín dōu shēnliang gāo dà .

And they spread among the Israelites a bad report about the land they had explored. They said, “The land we explored devours those living in it. All the people we saw there are of great size.
33 Wǒmen zaì nàli kànjian Yànà zú rén , jiù shì wĕirén . tāmen shì wĕirén de hòuyì . jū wǒmen kàn , zìjǐ jiù rú zhà mĕng yíyàng . jū tāmen kàn , wǒmen yĕ shì rúcǐ .

We saw the Nephilim there (the descendants of Anak come from the Nephilim). We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them.”
