1 Zhòng zǐ a , yào tīng fùqin de jiàoxun , liú xīn dé zhī cōngming .

Listen, my sons, to a father’s instruction; pay attention and gain understanding.
2 Yīn wǒ suǒ gĕi nǐmen de , shì hǎo jiàoxun . bùkĕ lí qì wǒde fǎ zé . ( huò zuò zhǐjiào )

I give you sound learning, so do not forsake my teaching.
3 Wǒ zaì fùqin miànqián wéi xiào zǐ , zaì mǔqin yǎn zhōng wèi dú yī de jiāo ér .

For I too was a son to my father, still tender, and cherished by my mother.
4 Fùqin jiàoxun wǒ shuō , nǐ xīn yào cún jì wǒde yányǔ , zūnshǒu wǒde mìnglìng , biàn dé cún huó .

Then he taught me, and he said to me, “Take hold of my words with all your heart; keep my commands, and you will live.
5 Yào dé zhìhuì , yào dé cōngming . bùkĕ wàngjì , yĕ bùkĕ piānlí wǒ kǒu zhōng de yányǔ .

Get wisdom, get understanding; do not forget my words or turn away from them.
6 Bùkĕ lí qì zhìhuì , zhìhuì jiù hùwèi nǐ . yào aì tā , tā jiù bǎoshǒu nǐ .

Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, and she will watch over you.
7 Zhìhuì wèi shǒu . suǒyǐ yào dé zhìhuì . zaì nǐ yīqiè suǒ dé zhī neì , bì dé cōngming . ( huò zuòyòng nǐ yīqiè suǒ dé de qù huàn cōngming )

The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.
8 Gāo jǔ zhìhuì , tā jiù shǐ nǐ gāo shēng . huái bào zhìhuì , tā jiù shǐ nǐ zūnróng .

Cherish her, and she will exalt you; embrace her, and she will honor you.
9 Tā bìjiāng huá guān jiā zaì nǐ tóu shang , bǎ róng miǎn jiāo gĕi nǐ .

She will give you a garland to grace your head and present you with a glorious crown.”
10 Wǒ ér , nǐ yào tīng shòu wǒde yányǔ , jiù bì yán nián yì shòu .

Listen, my son, accept what I say, and the years of your life will be many.
11 Wǒ yǐ zhǐjiào nǐ zǒu zhìhuì de dào , yǐndǎo nǐ xíng zhèngzhí de lù .

I instruct you in the way of wisdom and lead you along straight paths.
12 Nǐ xíng zǒu , jiǎobù bì bù zhì xiá zhǎi . nǐ bēnpǎo , yĕ bù zhì diēdǎo .

When you walk, your steps will not be hampered; when you run, you will not stumble.
13 Yào chí déng xùn huì , bùkĕ fàng sōng . bì dāng jǐn shǒu , yīnwei tā shì nǐde shēngmìng .

Hold on to instruction, do not let it go; guard it well, for it is your life.
14 Bùkĕ xíng è rén de lù . bùkĕ zǒu huaì rén de dào .

Do not set foot on the path of the wicked or walk in the way of evildoers.
15 Yào duǒbì , bùkĕ qīng guō . yào zhuǎn shēn ér qù .

Avoid it, do not travel on it; turn from it and go on your way.
16 Zhè dĕng rén ruò bù xíng è , bùdé shuìjiào . bù shǐ rén diēdǎo , shuì wò bù ān .

For they cannot rest until they do evil; they are robbed of sleep till they make someone stumble.
17 Yīnwei tāmen yǐ jiān è chī bǐng , yǐ qiángbào hē jiǔ .

They eat the bread of wickedness and drink the wine of violence.
18 Dàn yì rén de lù , hǎoxiàng límíng de guāng , yuè zhào yuè míng , zhídào rì wǔ .

The path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of day.
19 È rén de dào hǎoxiàng yōuàn . zìjǐ bù zhī yīn shénme diēdǎo .

But the way of the wicked is like deep darkness; they do not know what makes them stumble.
20 Wǒ ér , yào liú xīn tīng wǒde yán cí , zhāi ĕr tīng wǒde huà yǔ .

My son, pay attention to what I say; turn your ear to my words.
21 Dōu bùkĕ lí nǐde yǎnmù . yào cún jì zaì nǐ xīn zhōng .

Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart;
22 Yīnwei dé zhe tāde , jiù dé le shēngmìng , yòu dé le yī quán tǐ de liáng yào .

for they are life to those who find them and health to one’s whole body.
23 Nǐ yào bǎoshǒu nǐ xīn , shēng guo bǎoshǒu yīqiè . ( huò zuò nǐ yào qiē qiè bǎoshǒu nǐ xīn ) yīnwei yìshēng de guǒ xiào , shì yóu xīn fāchū .

Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.
24 Nǐ yào chúdiào xié pì de kǒu , qìjué guāi miù de zuǐ.

Keep your mouth free of perversity; keep corrupt talk far from your lips.
25 Nǐde yǎnmù , yào xiàng qián shēng kàn , nǐde yǎnjing , ( yuánwén zuò pí ) dāng xiàng qián zhí guān .

Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you.
26 Yào xiū píng nǐ jiǎo xià de lù , jiāndéng nǐ yīqiè de dào .

Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways.
27 Bùkĕ piān xiàng zuǒyòu . yào shǐ nǐde jiǎo líkāi xiéè .

Do not turn to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil.
