NIV 2 for people who are wicked and deceitful have opened their mouths against me; they have spoken against me with lying tongues. RHE 3 (108-3) They have spoken against me with deceitful tongues; and they have compassed me about with words of hatred; and have fought against me without cause. NIV 3 With words of hatred they surround me; they attack me without cause. RHE 4 (108-4) Instead of making me a return of love, they detracted me: but I gave myself to prayer. NIV 4 In return for my friendship they accuse me, but I am a man of prayer. RHE 5 (108-5) And they repaid me evil for good: and hatred for my love. NIV 5 They repay me evil for good, and hatred for my friendship. RHE 6 (108-6) Set thou the sinner over him: and may the devil stand at his right hand. NIV 6 Appoint someone evil to oppose my enemy; let an accuser stand at his right hand. RHE 7 (108-7) When he is judged, may he go out condemned; and may his prayer be turned to sin. NIV 7 When he is tried, let him be found guilty, and may his prayers condemn him. RHE 8 (108-8) May his days be few: and his bishopric let another take. NIV 8 May his days be few; may another take his place of leadership. RHE 9 (108-9) May his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow. NIV 9 May his children be fatherless and his wife a widow. RHE 10 (108-10) Let his children be carried about vagabonds, and beg; and let them be cast out of their dwellings. NIV 10 May his children be wandering beggars; may they be driven from their ruined homes. RHE 11 (108-11) May the usurer search all his substance: and let strangers plunder his labours. NIV 11 May a creditor seize all he has; may strangers plunder the fruits of his labor. RHE 12 (108-12) May there be none to help him: nor none to pity his fatherless offspring. NIV 12 May no one extend kindness to him or take pity on his fatherless children. RHE 13 (108-13) May his posterity be cut off; in one generation may his name be blotted out. NIV 13 May his descendants be cut off, their names blotted out from the next generation. RHE 14 (108-14) May the iniquity of his fathers be remembered in the sight of the Lord: and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out. NIV 14 May the iniquity of his fathers be remembered before the LORD; may the sin of his mother never be blotted out. RHE 15 (108-15) May they be before the Lord continually, and let the memory of them perish from the earth: NIV 15 May their sins always remain before the LORD, that he may blot out their name from the earth. RHE 16 (108-16) because he remembered not to shew mercy, NIV 16 For he never thought of doing a kindness, but hounded to death the poor and the needy and the brokenhearted. RHE 17 (108-17) But persecuted the poor man and the beggar; and the broken in heart, to put him to death. NIV 17 He loved to pronounce a curse— may it come back on him. He found no pleasure in blessing— may it be far from him. RHE 18 (108-18) And he loved cursing, and it shall come unto him: and he would not have blessing, and it shall be far from him. And he put on cursing, like a garment: and it went in like water into his entrails, and like oil in his bones. NIV 18 He wore cursing as his garment; it entered into his body like water, into his bones like oil. RHE 19 (108-19) May it be unto him like a garment which covereth him; and like a girdle with which he is girded continually. NIV 19 May it be like a cloak wrapped about him, like a belt tied forever around him. RHE 20 (108-20) This is the work of them who detract me before the Lord; and who speak evils against my soul. NIV 20 May this be the LORD’s payment to my accusers, to those who speak evil of me. RHE 21 (108-21) But thou, O Lord, do with me for thy name’s sake: because thy mercy is sweet. Do thou deliver me, NIV 21 But you, Sovereign LORD, help me for your name’s sake; out of the goodness of your love, deliver me. RHE 22 (108-22) For I am poor and needy, and my heart is troubled within me. NIV 22 For I am poor and needy, and my heart is wounded within me. RHE 25 (108-25) And I am become a reproach to them: they saw me and they shaked their heads. NIV 25 I am an object of scorn to my accusers; when they see me, they shake their heads. RHE 26 (108-26) Help me, O Lord my God; save me; according to thy mercy. NIV 26 Help me, LORD my God; save me according to your unfailing love. RHE 27 (108-27) And let them know that this is thy hand: and that thou, O Lord, hast done it. NIV 27 Let them know that it is your hand, that you, LORD, have done it. RHE 28 (108-28) They will curse and thou wilt bless: let them that rise up against me be confounded: but thy servant shall rejoice. NIV 28 While they curse, may you bless; may those who attack me be put to shame, but may your servant rejoice. RHE 29 (108-29) Let them that detract me be clothed with shame: and let them be covered with their confusion as with a double cloak. NIV 29 May my accusers be clothed with disgrace and wrapped in shame as in a cloak. RHE 30 (108-30) I will give great thanks to the Lord with my mouth: and in the midst of many I will praise him. NIV 30 With my mouth I will greatly extol the LORD; in the great throng of worshipers I will praise him.
