Psalm 83

BBE 1 <A Song. A Psalm. Of Asaph.> O God, do not keep quiet: let your lips be open and take no rest, O God. NIV 1 O God, do not remain silent; do not turn a deaf ear, do not stand aloof, O God. BBE 2 For see! those who make war on you are out of control; your haters are lifting up their heads. NIV 2 See how your enemies growl, how your foes rear their heads. BBE 3 They have made wise designs against your people, talking together against those whom you keep in a secret place. NIV 3 With cunning they conspire against your people; they plot against those you cherish. BBE 4 They have said, Come, let us put an end to them as a nation; so that the name of Israel may go out of man's memory. NIV 4 “Come,” they say, “let us destroy them as a nation, so that Israel’s name is remembered no more.” BBE 5 For they have all come to an agreement; they are all joined together against you: NIV 5 With one mind they plot together; they form an alliance against you— BBE 6 The tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites; Moab and the Hagarites; NIV 6 the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, of Moab and the Hagrites, BBE 7 Gebal and Ammon and Amalek; the Philistines and the people of Tyre; NIV 7 Byblos, Ammon and Amalek, Philistia, with the people of Tyre. BBE 8 Assur is joined with them; they have become the support of the children of Lot. (Selah.) NIV 8 Even Assyria has joined them to reinforce Lot’s descendants. BBE 9 Do to them what you did to the Midianites; what you did to Sisera and Jabin, at the stream of Kishon: NIV 9 Do to them as you did to Midian, as you did to Sisera and Jabin at the river Kishon, BBE 10 Who came to destruction at En-dor; their bodies became dust and waste. NIV 10 who perished at Endor and became like dung on the ground. BBE 11 Make their chiefs like Oreb and Zeeb; and all their rulers like Zebah and Zalmunna: NIV 11 Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb, all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna, BBE 12 Who have said, Let us take for our heritage the resting-place of God. NIV 12 who said, “Let us take possession of the pasturelands of God.” BBE 13 O my God, make them like the rolling dust; like dry stems before the wind. NIV 13 Make them like tumbleweed, my God, like chaff before the wind. BBE 14 As fire burning a wood, and as a flame causing fire on the mountains, NIV 14 As fire consumes the forest or a flame sets the mountains ablaze, BBE 15 So go after them with your strong wind, and let them be full of fear because of your storm. NIV 15 so pursue them with your tempest and terrify them with your storm. BBE 16 Let their faces be full of shame; so that they may give honour to your name, O Lord. NIV 16 Cover their faces with shame, LORD, so that they will seek your name. BBE 17 Let them be overcome and troubled for ever; let them be put to shame and come to destruction; NIV 17 May they ever be ashamed and dismayed; may they perish in disgrace. BBE 18 So that men may see that you only, whose name is Yahweh, are Most High over all the earth. NIV 18 Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD— that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.
