Psalm 94

NIRV 1 Lord, you are the God who punishes. Since you are the one who punishes, come and show your anger. NIV 1 The LORD is a God who avenges. O God who avenges, shine forth. NIRV 2 Judge of the earth, rise up. Pay back proud people for what they have done. NIV 2 Rise up, Judge of the earth; pay back to the proud what they deserve. NIRV 3 Lord, how long will those who are evil be glad? How long will they be full of joy? NIV 3 How long, LORD, will the wicked, how long will the wicked be jubilant? NIRV 4 Proud words pour out of their mouths. All those who do evil are always bragging. NIV 4 They pour out arrogant words; all the evildoers are full of boasting. NIRV 5 Lord, they crush your people. They beat down those who belong to you. NIV 5 They crush your people, LORD; they oppress your inheritance. NIRV 6 They kill outsiders. They kill widows. They murder children whose fathers have died. NIV 6 They slay the widow and the foreigner; they murder the fatherless. NIRV 7 They say, "The LORD doesn't see what's happening. The God of Jacob doesn't pay any attention to it." NIV 7 They say, “The LORD does not see; the God of Jacob takes no notice.” NIRV 8 You who aren't wise, pay attention. You foolish people, when will you become wise? NIV 8 Take notice, you senseless ones among the people; you fools, when will you become wise? NIRV 9 Does he who made the ear not hear? Does he who formed the eye not see? NIV 9 Does he who fashioned the ear not hear? Does he who formed the eye not see? NIRV 10 Does he who corrects nations not punish? Does he who teaches human beings not know anything? NIV 10 Does he who disciplines nations not punish? Does he who teaches mankind lack knowledge? NIRV 11 The LORD knows what people think. He knows that their thoughts don't amount to anything. NIV 11 The LORD knows all human plans; he knows that they are futile. NIRV 12 Lord, blessed is the man you correct. Blessed is the person you teach from your law. NIV 12 Blessed is the one you discipline, LORD, the one you teach from your law; NIRV 13 You give him rest from times of trouble, until a pit is dug to trap sinners. NIV 13 you grant them relief from days of trouble, till a pit is dug for the wicked. NIRV 14 The LORD won't say no to his people. He will never desert those who belong to him. NIV 14 For the LORD will not reject his people; he will never forsake his inheritance. NIRV 15 He will again judge people in keeping with what is right. All those who have honest hearts will follow the right way. NIV 15 Judgment will again be founded on righteousness, and all the upright in heart will follow it. NIRV 16 Who will rise up for me against sinful people? Who will stand up for me against those who do evil? NIV 16 Who will rise up for me against the wicked? Who will take a stand for me against evildoers? NIRV 17 Suppose the LORD had not helped me. Then I would soon have been lying quietly in the grave. NIV 17 Unless the LORD had given me help, I would soon have dwelt in the silence of death. NIRV 18 I said, "My foot is slipping." But Lord, your love kept me from falling. NIV 18 When I said, “My foot is slipping,” your unfailing love, LORD, supported me. NIRV 19 I was very worried. But your comfort brought joy to my heart. NIV 19 When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy. NIRV 20 Can you have anything to do with rulers who aren't fair? Can those who make laws that cause suffering be friends of yours? NIV 20 Can a corrupt throne be allied with you— a throne that brings on misery by its decrees? NIRV 21 They join together against those who do what is right. They sentence to death those who aren't guilty of doing anything wrong. NIV 21 The wicked band together against the righteous and condemn the innocent to death. NIRV 22 But the LORD has become like a fort to me. My God is my rock. I go to him for safety. NIV 22 But the LORD has become my fortress, and my God the rock in whom I take refuge. NIRV 23 He will pay them back for their sins. He will destroy them for their evil acts. The LORD our God will destroy them. NIV 23 He will repay them for their sins and destroy them for their wickedness; the LORD our God will destroy them.
