1 La vara de Aarón se convierte en serpiente<br />Entonces el Señor<br /> le dijo a Moisés: «Presta mucha atención a lo que voy a decir. Yo haré que para el faraón parezcas como Dios, y tu hermano Aarón, será tu profeta.

2 Dile a Aarón todo lo que yo te mande, y Aarón deberá ordenarle al faraón que deje salir de su territorio al pueblo de Israel.

3 Sin embargo, haré que el corazón del faraón se ponga terco, para poder multiplicar mis señales milagrosas y mis maravillas en la tierra de Egipto.

4 Aun así, el faraón se negará a escucharte; por eso alzaré mi puño contra Egipto. Luego rescataré a mis ejércitos —a mi pueblo, los israelitas— de la tierra de Egipto con grandes actos de juicio.

5 Cuando levante mi mano poderosa y saque a los israelitas, los egipcios sabrán que yo soy el Señor<br />».

6 Así que Moisés y Aarón hicieron tal como el Señor<br /> les mandó.

7 Moisés tenía ochenta años, y Aarón, ochenta y tres cuando presentaron sus demandas ante el faraón.

8 Después el Señor<br /> les dijo a Moisés y a Aarón:

9 «El faraón les dirá: “Muéstrenme un milagro”. Cuando lo haga, dile a Aarón: “Toma tu vara y arrójala al suelo delante del faraón, y la vara se convertirá en una serpiente”».

10 Entonces Moisés y Aarón fueron a ver al faraón e hicieron lo que el Señor<br /> les había ordenado. Aarón tiró su vara al suelo delante del faraón y de sus funcionarios, ¡y la vara se convirtió en una serpiente!

11 Entonces el faraón llamó a sus sabios y a sus hechiceros, y los magos egipcios hicieron lo mismo con sus artes mágicas:

12 tiraron sus varas al suelo, ¡y las varas también se convirtieron en serpientes! Pero la vara de Aarón se tragó las varas de ellos.

13 Sin embargo, el corazón del faraón siguió endurecido. Continuó negándose a escucharlos, tal como el Señor<br /> había dicho.

14 Plaga de sangre<br />Luego el Señor<br /> le dijo a Moisés: «El corazón del faraón es obstinado,<br /> y todavía se niega a dejar salir al pueblo.

15 Así que irás a ver al faraón por la mañana, cuando descienda al río. Párate junto a la ribera del río Nilo para encontrarte allí con él. No te olvides de llevar contigo la vara que se convirtió en serpiente.

16 Luego anúnciale lo siguiente: “El Señor<br />, Dios de los hebreos, me envió a decirte: ‘Deja ir a mi pueblo para que me adore en el desierto’. Hasta ahora te has negado a escucharlo;

17 por lo tanto, esto dice el Señor<br />: ‘Te mostraré que yo soy el Señor<br />’. ¡Mira! Con esta vara que tengo en la mano golpearé el agua del Nilo, y el río se convertirá en sangre.

18 Los peces del río morirán, y el río apestará y los egipcios no podrán beber agua del Nilo”».

19 Luego el Señor<br /> le dijo a Moisés: «Dile a Aarón: “Toma tu vara y extiende tu mano sobre las aguas de Egipto —todos sus ríos, canales, estanques y depósitos de agua—; convierte toda el agua en sangre. En todo Egipto el agua se transformará en sangre, incluso el agua almacenada en vasijas de madera y en tinajas de piedra”».

20 Moisés y Aarón hicieron tal como el Señor<br /> les ordenó. A la vista del faraón y de todos sus funcionarios, Aarón extendió su vara y golpeó el agua del Nilo. De repente, ¡todo el río se convirtió en sangre!

21 Murieron los peces del río y el agua quedó tan asquerosa que los egipcios no podían beberla. Había sangre por todas partes en la tierra de Egipto.

22 Pero los magos de Egipto volvieron a usar sus artes mágicas y también convirtieron el agua en sangre. De modo que el corazón del faraón siguió endurecido y se negó a escuchar a Moisés y a Aarón, tal como el Señor<br /> había dicho.

23 El faraón regresó a su palacio y no le prestó más atención al asunto.

24 Entonces los egipcios cavaron en las riberas del río en busca de agua potable, porque no podían beber el agua del Nilo.

25 Siete días pasaron desde el momento en que el Señor<br /> hirió el Nilo.

1 Then the LORD said to Moses, “See, I have made you like God to Pharaoh, and your brother Aaron will be your prophet.

2 You are to say everything I command you, and your brother Aaron is to tell Pharaoh to let the Israelites go out of his country.

3 But I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and though I multiply my signs and wonders in Egypt,

4 he will not listen to you. Then I will lay my hand on Egypt and with mighty acts of judgment I will bring out my divisions, my people the Israelites.

5 And the Egyptians will know that I am the LORD when I stretch out my hand against Egypt and bring the Israelites out of it.”

6 Moses and Aaron did just as the LORD commanded them.

7 Moses was eighty years old and Aaron eighty-three when they spoke to Pharaoh.

8 The LORD said to Moses and Aaron,

9 “When Pharaoh says to you, ‘Perform a miracle,’ then say to Aaron, ‘Take your staff and throw it down before Pharaoh,’ and it will become a snake.”

10 So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and did just as the LORD commanded. Aaron threw his staff down in front of Pharaoh and his officials, and it became a snake.

11 Pharaoh then summoned wise men and sorcerers, and the Egyptian magicians also did the same things by their secret arts:

12 Each one threw down his staff and it became a snake. But Aaron’s staff swallowed up their staffs.

13 Yet Pharaoh’s heart became hard and he would not listen to them, just as the LORD had said.

14 Then the LORD said to Moses, “Pharaoh’s heart is unyielding; he refuses to let the people go.

15 Go to Pharaoh in the morning as he goes out to the river. Confront him on the bank of the Nile, and take in your hand the staff that was changed into a snake.

16 Then say to him, ‘The LORD, the God of the Hebrews, has sent me to say to you: Let my people go, so that they may worship me in the wilderness. But until now you have not listened.

17 This is what the LORD says: By this you will know that I am the LORD: With the staff that is in my hand I will strike the water of the Nile, and it will be changed into blood.

18 The fish in the Nile will die, and the river will stink; the Egyptians will not be able to drink its water.’ ”

19 The LORD said to Moses, “Tell Aaron, ‘Take your staff and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt—over the streams and canals, over the ponds and all the reservoirs—and they will turn to blood.’ Blood will be everywhere in Egypt, even in vessels of wood and stone.”

20 Moses and Aaron did just as the LORD had commanded. He raised his staff in the presence of Pharaoh and his officials and struck the water of the Nile, and all the water was changed into blood.

21 The fish in the Nile died, and the river smelled so bad that the Egyptians could not drink its water. Blood was everywhere in Egypt.

22 But the Egyptian magicians did the same things by their secret arts, and Pharaoh’s heart became hard; he would not listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the LORD had said.

23 Instead, he turned and went into his palace, and did not take even this to heart.

24 And all the Egyptians dug along the Nile to get drinking water, because they could not drink the water of the river.

25 Seven days passed after the LORD struck the Nile.
