1 Samuel 22:7-17

7 Y dijo Saúl a sus criados que estaban en derredor de él: Oíd ahora, hijos de Jemini: ¿Os dará también a todos vosotros el hijo de Jessé tierras y viñas, y os hará a todos vosotros capitanes de mil y de cien

8 que todos vosotros habéis conspirado contra mí, y no hay quien me descubra al oído cómo mi hijo ha hecho alianza con el hijo de Jessé, ni hay alguno de vosotros que se duela de mí, y me descubra cómo mi hijo ha despertado a mi siervo contra mí, para que me aceche, según hace hoy día

9 Entonces Doeg idumeo, que era señor entre los siervos de Saúl, respondió y dijo: Yo vi al hijo de Jessé que vino a Nob, a Ahimelec hijo de Ahitob

10 el cual consultó por él al SEÑOR, y le dio provisión, y también le dio la espada de Goliat el filisteo

11 Y el rey envió por el sacerdote Ahimelec hijo de Ahitob, y por toda la casa de su padre, los sacerdotes que estaban en Nob; y todos vinieron al rey

12 Y Saúl le dijo: Oye ahora, hijo de Ahitob. Y él dijo: Heme aquí, señor mío

13 Y le dijo Saúl: ¿Por qué habéis conspirado contra mí, tú y el hijo de Jessé, cuando tú le diste pan y espada, y consultaste por él a Dios, para que se levantara contra mí y me acechara, como lo hace hoy día

14 Entonces Ahimelec respondió al rey, y dijo: ¿Y quién hay fiel entre todos sus siervos como lo es David, yerno del rey, y que va por tu mandado, y es ilustre en tu casa

15 ¿He comenzado yo desde hoy a consultar por él a Dios? Lejos sea de mí; no impute el rey cosa alguna a su siervo, ni a toda la casa de mi padre; porque tu siervo ninguna cosa sabe de este negocio, grande ni chica

16 Y el rey dijo: Sin duda morirás, Ahimelec, tú y toda la casa de tu padre

17 Entonces dijo el rey a la gente de su guardia que estaba alrededor de él: Cercad y matad a los sacerdotes del SEÑOR; porque también la mano de ellos es también con David, pues sabiendo ellos que huía, no me lo descubrieron. Mas los siervos del rey no quisieron extender sus manos para matar alos sacerdotes del SEÑOR

INTRODUCTION TO FIRST SAMUEL 22

This chapter gives us an account of the flight of David from place to place, from Gath to the cave of Adullam, where his relations came to him; from thence to Mizpeh in Moab, where he got leave of the king of Moab for his father and mother to dwell there; and from thence, by the advice of Gad the prophet, departed into the land of Judah, and came to the forest of Hareth, 1Sa 21:1-5; and of the complaint of Saul to his servants of their unfaithfulness to him, and indolence and unconcern at the behaviour of Jonathan and David to him, 1Sa 22:6-8; when Doeg the Edomite informed him of David being seen by him at Nob, and of his receiving food and a sword from Ahimelech the priest, who inquired of the Lord for him, 1Sa 22:9,10; upon which Saul sent for Ahimelech and all the priests at Nob, and charged them with a conspiracy against him; and notwithstanding the defence the priest made, Saul ordered him and the rest of the priests to be slain by his guards; which they refusing, Doeg became the executioner of them, and of all the inhabitants of the city of Nob, and the cattle in it, 1Sa 22:11-19; only Abiathar a son of Ahimelech escaped and fled to David with the sorrowful news; which greatly affected David, looking upon himself to be the occasion of this sad disaster, and he took Abiathar under his protection, and promised him safety, 1Sa 22:20-23.
