1 Samuel 24:7-17

7 Así quebrantó David a los suyos con palabras, y no les permitió que se levantaran contra Saúl. Y Saúl, saliendo de la cueva, se fue su camino

8 También David se levantó después, y saliendo de la cueva dio voces a las espaldas de Saúl, diciendo: ¡Mi señor el rey! Y cuando Saúl miró atrás, David inclinó su rostro a tierra, y adoró

9 Y dijo David a Saúl: ¿Por qué oyes las palabras de los que dicen: Mira que David procura tu mal

10 He aquí han visto hoy tus ojos cómo el SEÑOR te ha puesto hoy en mis manos en esta cueva; y dijeron que te matara, mas te perdoné, porque dije: No extenderé mi mano contra mi señor, porque ungido es del SEÑOR

11 Y mira, padre mío, mira aún la orilla de tu ropa en mi mano; porque yo corté la orilla de tu manto, y no te maté. Conoce, pues, y ve que no hay mal ni traición en mi mano, ni he pecado contra ti; con todo, tú andas a caza de mi vida para quitármela

12 Juzgue el SEÑOR entre mí y ti, y véngueme de ti el SEÑOR; pero mi mano no será contra ti

13 Como dice el proverbio del antiguo: De los impíos saldrá la impiedad; así que mi mano no será contra ti

14 ¿Tras quién ha salido el rey de Israel? ¿A quién persigues? ¿A un perro muerto? ¿A una pulga

15 El SEÑOR, pues, será juez, y él juzgará entre mí y ti. El vea, y pleitee mi pleito, y me defienda de tu mano

16 Y aconteció que, cuando David acabó de decir estas palabras a Saúl, Saúl dijo: ¿No es esta la voz tuya, hijo mío David? Y alzando Saúl su voz lloró

17 Y dijo a David: Más justo eres tú que yo, que me has pagado con bien, habiéndote yo pagado con mal

INTRODUCTION TO FIRST SAMUEL 24

Saul being returned from following the Philistines, renews his pursuit after David, 1Sa 24:1,2; and they meeting in a cave, where David had the opportunity of taking away the life of Saul, which his men pressed him to, yet only cut off the skirt of his robe, 1Sa 24:3-8; which, calling after him, he held up to him to convince him he had his life in his hands, but spared it, 1Sa 24:9,10; upon which he very pathetically reasons with him about the unreasonableness and unrighteousness of his pursuit after him, to take away his life, 1Sa 24:11-15; which so affected Saul, that he confessed he was more righteous than he, and owned that the kingdom would be his, and only desired him to swear to him not to cut off his offspring, which David did, and so they parted, 1Sa 24:16-22.
