Foras the sufferings of Christaboundinus,soourconsolationalsoaboundethbyChrist.

Andwhether we be afflicted, it is foryourconsolationandsalvation,which is effectual[a]in the enduring of the samesufferingswhichwealsosuffer: or whether we be comforted, it is foryourconsolationandsalvation.

Andourhopeofyou is stedfast,knowing, thatas ye arepartakers of the sufferings,so shall ye be also of the consolation.

For we wouldnot,brethren,haveyouignorantofourtroublewhichcame to usinAsia,that we were pressedout of measure,abovestrength,insomuch that wedespairedeven of life:

Butwehad the sentence[b] of deathinourselves,that we shouldnottrustinourselves*, butinGodwhichraiseth the dead:

Whodeliveredusfrom so great a death,and doth deliver: inwhom we trustthat he will*yetdeliver us;

Yealso helping together by prayerforus,that for the gift bestowed uponusby the means of manypersons thanks may begivenbymany on our behalf.

Forourrejoicingisthis, the testimony of ourconscience,thatinsimplicityandgodlysincerity,notwithfleshlywisdom,butby the grace of God, we have had our conversationin the world,and more abundantlytoyou-ward.
