2 Samuel 15:1-11

1 Aconteció después de esto, que Absalón se hizo de carros y gente de a caballo, y cincuenta que corrieran delante de él

2 Y se levantaba Absalón de mañana, y se ponía a un lado del camino de la puerta; y a cualquiera que tenía pleito y venía al rey a juicio, Absalón le llamaba a sí, y le decía: ¿De qué ciudad eres? Y él respondía: Tu siervo es de una de las tribus de Israel

3 Entonces Absalón le decía: Mira, tus palabras son buenas y justas; mas no tienes quien te oiga por el rey

4 Y decía Absalón: ¡Quién me pusiera por juez en la tierra, para que vinieran a mí todos los que tienen pleito o negocio, que yo les haría justicia

5 Y acontecía que, cuando alguno se llegaba para inclinarse a él, él extendía su mano, y lo tomaba, y lo besaba

6 Y de esta manera hacía con todo Israel que venía al rey a juicio; y así robaba Absalón el corazón de los de Israel

7 Y al finalizar un periodo predeterminado de cuarenta años aconteció que Absalón dijo al rey: Yo te ruego me permitas que vaya a Hebrón, a pagar mi voto que he prometido al SEÑOR

8 Porque tu siervo hizo voto cuando estaba en Gesur en Siria, diciendo: Si el SEÑOR me volviere a Jerusalén, yo serviré al SEÑOR

9 Y el rey dijo: Ve en paz. Y él se levantó, y se fue a Hebrón

10 Pero envió Absalón espías por todas las tribus de Israel, diciendo: Cuando oyereis el sonido del shofar, diréis: Absalón reina en Hebrón

11 Y fueron con Absalón doscientos hombres de Jerusalén por él convidados, los cuales iban en su integridad, sin saber nada

INTRODUCTION TO SECOND SAMUEL 15

This chapter relates how that Absalom by various artful methods stole away the hearts of the people of Israel, 2Sa 15:1-6; that pretending a vow he had made, he got leave of the king to go to Hebron to perform it, 2Sa 15:7-9; where he formed a considerable conspiracy, 2Sa 15:10-12; of which David having information, thought it advisable to depart from Jerusalem, both for his own safety, and the good of the city, which he did with his family, and guards, and much people, 2Sa 15:13-18; though he would have persuaded Ittai the Gittite to have returned, but could not prevail upon him, 2Sa 15:19-23; however, he sent back the priests and the Levites with the ark, lest any harm should come to that, 2Sa 15:24-29; and as he and the people went up the mount of Olives weeping, it was told him that Ahithophel was among the conspirators, on which he put up a prayer that his counsel might be infatuated, 2Sa 15:30,31; and Hushai the Archite coming to him at that juncture, he sent him back to Jerusalem to defeat the counsel of Ahithophel, and to send him word by the priests what he should hear there from time to time, 2Sa 15:32-37.
