1 David es ungido rey de Judá
Después de esto, David le preguntó al Señor
:
—¿Debo regresar a alguna de las ciudades de Judá?
—Sí —respondió el Señor
.
—¿A qué ciudad debo ir? —preguntó David.
—A Hebrón —contestó el Señor
.

2 Las dos esposas de David eran Ahinoam de Jezreel y Abigail, la viuda de Nabal de Carmelo. David, sus esposas

3 y los hombres de David junto con sus familias se mudaron a Judá, y se establecieron en las aldeas cercanas a Hebrón.

4 Después llegaron los hombres de Judá y ungieron a David rey del pueblo de Judá.
Cuando David se enteró de que los hombres de Jabes de Galaad habían enterrado a Saúl,

5 les envió el siguiente mensaje: «Que el Señor
los bendiga por haber sido tan leales a su señor Saúl y por haberle dado un entierro digno.

6 ¡Que el Señor
, a cambio, sea leal a ustedes y los recompense con su amor inagotable! Yo también los recompensaré por lo que han hecho.

7 Ahora que Saúl ha muerto, les pido que sean mis súbditos valientes y leales, igual que el pueblo de Judá, que me ha ungido como su nuevo rey».

8 Is-boset es proclamado rey de Israel
Sin embargo, Abner, hijo de Ner, comandante del ejército de Saúl, ya había ido a Mahanaim con Is-boset,
hijo de Saúl.

9 Allí proclamó a Is-boset rey de Galaad, de Jezreel, de Efraín, de Benjamín, de la tierra de los gesuritas y del resto de Israel.

INTRODUCTION TO SECOND SAMUEL 2

This chapter relates that David, upon inquiring of the Lord, was directed to go up to Hebron, and did, where he was anointed king of Judah, 2Sa 2:1-4. And that being told of the kindness of the men of Jabeshgilead in burying Saul, he sent them thanks, and promised to remember it, and took the opportunity to let them know he was anointed king over Judah, 2Sa 2:5-7. It also relates that Abner set up Ishbosheth, the son of Saul, to be king over Israel, 2Sa 2:8-11; and that there was an encounter between twelve of Abner's men and twelve of David's, which brought on a sore battle between them, in which Abner was beaten, 2Sa 2:12-17; and Asahel, who was of David's party, was slain in the pursuit by Abner, 2Sa 2:18-25; when a retreat was sounded by Joab, at the influence of Abner, who, with his wen, betook themselves to Mahanaim, where he had left Ishbosheth, 2Sa 2:26-29. And the chapter closes with an account of the slain on both sides, the burial of Asahel, and the return of Joab with David's men to Hebron, 2Sa 2:30-32.
