2 Samuel 3:19-29

19 Y habló también Abner a los de Benjamín; y fue también Abner a Hebrón a decir a David todo el parecer de los de Israel y de toda la casa de Benjamín.

20 Vino, pues, Abner a David en Hebrón, y con él veinte hombres; y David hizo banquete a Abner y a los que con él habían venido.

21 Y dijo Abner a David: Yo me levantaré e iré, y juntaré a mi señor el rey a todo Israel, para que hagan contigo alianza, y tú reines como deseas. David despidió luego a Abner, y él se fue en paz.

22 Y he aquí los siervos de David y Joab, que venían del campo, y traían consigo gran presa. Mas Abner ya no estaba con David en Hebrón, que ya lo había él despedido, y él se había ido en paz.

23 Y luego que llegó Joab y todo el ejército que con él estaba, fue dado aviso a Joab, diciendo: Abner hijo de Ner ha venido al rey, y él le ha despedido, y se fue en paz.

24 Entonces Joab vino al rey, y le dijo: ¿Qué has hecho? He aquí habíase venido Abner a ti; ¿por qué pues lo dejaste que se fuese?

25 ¿Sabes tú que Abner hijo de Ner ha venido para engañarte, y a saber tu salida y tu entrada, y por entender todo lo que tú haces?

26 Y saliéndose Joab de con David, envió mensajeros tras Abner, los cuales le hicieron volver desde el pozo de Sira, sin saberlo David.

27 Y cuando Abner volvió a Hebrón, lo apartó Joab al medio de la puerta, hablando con él blandamente, y allí le hirió por la quinta costilla , a causa de la muerte de Asael su hermano, y murió.

28 Cuando David supo después esto, dijo: Limpio estoy yo y mi reino, por el SEÑOR, para siempre, de la sangre de Abner hijo de Ner.

29 Caiga sobre la cabeza de Joab, y sobre toda la casa de su padre; que nunca falte de la casa de Joab quien padezca flujo, ni leproso, ni quien ande con báculo, ni quien muera a cuchillo, ni quien tenga falta de pan.

INTRODUCTION TO SECOND SAMUEL 3

This chapter begins with the continuation of the war between the house of Saul and the house of David, 2Sa 3:1; and gives an account of the wives of David, and his sons by them, 2Sa 3:2-5; of a quarrel between Ishbosheth and Abner, 2Sa 3:6-11; and of Abner's proposal to make a league with David; but David would not see his face unless Michal his wife was returned to him, who was accordingly, 2Sa 3:12-16; and of the interest Abner made with the elders of Israel in favour of David, which he reported to him, and promised to make more, 2Sa 3:17-21; but Joab returning from a pursuit, and with great spoil, just as Abner departed, and hearing of it, chided David for letting him go, and privately sent for him back, and treacherously murdered him, 2Sa 3:22-27; from which murder David cleared himself and his kingdom, and for it made dreadful imprecations on Joab and his family, 2Sa 3:28-30; and buried Abner with great lamentation, expressing much concern for his death, and the high opinion he had of him, 2Sa 3:31-39.
