2 Samuël 22:1-8

1 En David sprak de woorden dezes lieds tot den HEERE, ten dage als de HEERE hem verlost had uit de hand van al zijn vijanden, en uit de hand van Saul.

2 Hij zeide dan: De HEERE is mij mijn Steenrots, en mijn Burg, en mijn Uithelper.

3 God is mijn Rots, ik zal op Hem betrouwen; mijn Schild en de Hoorn mijns heils, mijn Hoog Vertrek en mijn Toevlucht, mijn Verlosser! Van geweld hebt Gij mij verlost!

4 Ik riep den HEERE aan, Die te prijzen is, en ik werd verlost van mijn vijanden.

5 Want baren des doods hadden mij omvangen; beken Belials verschrikten mij.

6 Banden der hel omringden mij; strikken des doods bejegenden mij.

7 Als mij bange was, riep ik den HEERE aan, en riep tot mijn God; en Hij hoorde mijn stem uit Zijn paleis, en mijn geroep kwam in Zijn oren.

8 Toen daverde en beefde de aarde; de fondamenten des hemels beroerden zich, en daverden, omdat Hij ontstoken was.

INTRODUCTION TO SECOND SAMUEL 22

This chapter contains a song or psalm, the same with the eighteenth psalm, and which, according to Jarchi, was composed by David in his old age, and, as Kimchi says, at the end or close of his days; but Abarbinel is of opinion that it was written in his youthful time, in the midst of his troubles, and was sung by him as often as he had a deliverance from any; and which may account for the several variations in it from the eighteenth psalm, which, the same writer observes, are seventy four; and are not to be ascribed to the difference of copies, or neglect of copiers: and very probably, towards the close of his days, he revised it, and made it fit for general use, and sent it with the rest of his psalms to the chief musician; but the particular consideration of it, and of the differences in it from Ps 18:1-50 are referred to the exposition of that book in its course.
