Now when we had discoveredCyprus*, we leftit on the left hand, and sailedintoSyria,andlandedatTyre:forthere the shipwas to unlade her burden.

Andfindingdisciples, we tarriedtheresevendays:whosaid to Paulthrough the Spirit, that he shouldnot go uptoJerusalem.

Andwhenwehadaccomplished those days, we departed and went our way; and they allbroughtus on our way, withwivesandchildren,till we were out of the city:and we kneeled down*on the shore, and prayed.

And when we had taken our leave one of another, we took*ship;andtheyreturned*homeagain.

And when we had finished our coursefromTyre, we cametoPtolemais,andsaluted the brethren, and abodewiththemoneday.

And the next day we that were ofPaul'scompanydeparted, and cameuntoCaesarea:and we enteredinto the house of Philip the evangelist, which was one of the seven; and abodewithhim.

And the same manhadfourdaughters,virgins, which did prophesy.

And as wetarried there manydays, there came downfromJudaea a certainprophet,namedAgabus.

And when he was comeuntous*, he tookPaul'sgirdle,andbound his ownhandsandfeet, and said, Thussaith the HolyGhost,Soshall the JewsatJerusalembind the manthatowneththisgirdle,and shall deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles.

Andwhen we heard these things,bothwe,and they of that place,besoughthimnot to go uptoJerusalem.

ThenPaulanswered, What mean ye to weepand to breakmineheart?forIamreadynot to be boundonly,butalso to dieatJerusalemfor the name of the LordJesus.

And when hewouldnot be persuaded, we ceased, saying, The will of the Lord be done.

Andafterthosedays we took up our carriages, and went uptoJerusalem.

Therewentwithusalso certain of the disciplesofCaesarea, and brought with themoneMnason of Cyprus, an olddisciple, with whom we should lodge.

And when we were cometoJerusalem, the brethrenreceivedusgladly.

And the day followingPaul went inwithusuntoJames;andall the elders were present.

And when he had salutedthem, he declaredparticularly*whatthingsGod had wroughtamong the Gentilesbyhisministry.

And when they heard it, they glorified the Lord,andsaid unto him, Thou seest, brother, how manythousands of Jews there arewhichbelieve; and they areallzealous of the law:

And they are informedofthee,that thou teachestall the Jews which are among the GentilestoforsakeMoses,saying that theyoughtnot to circumcise their children,neither to walk after the customs.

What is ittherefore? the multitudemustneeds come together: for they will hearthat thou art come.

Dothereforethisthat we say to thee:Wehavefourmen which have a vowonthem;
24
Themtake, and purify thyselfwiththem,and be at chargeswiththem,that they may shave their heads:andall may know that those things,whereof they were informedconcerningthee,arenothing;but that thou thyselfalso walkest orderly, and keepest the law.

Astouching the Gentiles which believe, we have written and concluded that theyobserveno such thing, save only that they keepthemselvesfrom things offered to idols,and from blood,and from strangled,and from fornication.

ThenPaultook the men, and the nextday purifying himselfwiththementeredinto the temple, to signify the accomplishment of the days of purification,untilthat an offering should be offeredforeveryone of them.

Andwhen the sevendays were almostended, the Jews which were ofAsia, when they sawhimin the temple, stirred upall the people,andlaidhandsonhim,

Crying out, Men of Israel,help: Thisis the man, that teachethall men every whereagainst the people,and the law,andthisplace:andfurtherbroughtGreeksalsointo the temple,and hath pollutedthisholyplace.

(For they had seen beforewithhimin the cityTrophimus an Ephesian,whom they supposedthatPaul had broughtinto the temple.)

Andall the city was moved, and the people ran together*: and they tookPaul, and drewhim out of the temple:andforthwith the doors were shut.

And as they went about to killhim,tidingscame unto the chief captain of the band,thatallJerusalem was in an uproar.

Whoimmediatelytooksoldiersandcenturions, and ran downuntothem:and when they saw the chief captainand the soldiers, they leftbeating of Paul.

Then the chief captain came near, and tookhim,andcommanded him to be bound withtwochains;anddemandedwho he was*, andwhat he haddone.
