Amós 7:1-11

1 La visión de las langostas
El Señor
Soberano me mostró una visión. Lo vi preparándose para enviar una enorme nube de langostas sobre la tierra. Esto ocurrió después de que la parte de la cosecha del rey había sido recolectada, pero cuando se acercaba la cosecha principal.

2 En mi visión las langostas se comieron todo lo verde que se veía. Entonces dije:
—Oh Señor
Soberano, por favor, perdónanos o no sobreviviremos, porque Israel
es tan pequeño.

3 Así que el Señor
se retractó de ese plan y dijo:
—No lo haré.

4 La visión del fuego
Después el Señor
Soberano me mostró otra visión. Lo vi preparándose para castigar a su pueblo con un gran fuego. El fuego había quemado las profundidades del mar e iba devorando toda la tierra.

5 Entonces dije:
—Oh Señor
Soberano, por favor, detente o no sobreviviremos, porque Israel es tan pequeño.

6 Entonces el Señor
también se retractó de ese plan.
—Tampoco lo haré —dijo el Señor
Soberano.

7 La visión de la plomada
Luego me mostró otra visión. Vi al Señor de pie al lado de una pared que se había construido usando una plomada. Usaba la plomada para ver si aún estaba derecha.

8 Entonces el Señor
me dijo:
—Amós, ¿qué ves?
—Una plomada —contesté.
Y el Señor respondió:
—Probaré a mi pueblo con esta plomada. Ya no pasaré por alto sus pecados.

9 Los altares paganos de sus antepasados
quedarán en ruinas y los santuarios de Israel serán destruidos; acabaré de forma repentina con la dinastía del rey Jeroboam.

10 Amós y Amasías
Luego Amasías, el sacerdote de Betel, mandó un mensaje a Jeroboam, rey de Israel: «¡Amós está tramando una conspiración contra usted, aquí mismo en el umbral de su casa! Lo que él dice es intolerable.

11 Anda diciendo: “Pronto matarán a Jeroboam y el pueblo de Israel será enviado al destierro”».

INTRODUCTION TO AMOS 7

In this and the two following chapters are the visions of Amos, in number five; three of which are contained in this chapter, and with which it begins. The first is of the grasshoppers or locusts eating up the later grass of the land, which are stopped at the intercession of the prophet, Am 7:1-3; the second is of fire the Lord called for to contend by, whose devouring flames are made to cease by the same interposition, Am 7:4-6; and the other is of the plumbline, signifying the utter destruction of the people of Israel, according to the righteous judgment of God, Am 7:7-9; upon the delivery of which prophecies and visions, the priest of Bethel forms a charge against the prophet to the king; and advises Amos to flee into Judea, and prophesy there, and not at Bethel, being willing to be rid of him at any rate, Am 7:10-13; next follows the prophet's vindication of himself showing his divine call to the prophetic office, and his mission and express order he had from the Lord to prophesy unto Israel, Am 7:14,15; and concludes with a denunciation of divine judgments on the priest's family, and upon the whole land of Israel, Am 7:16,17.
