Deuteronomio 4:1-14

Exhortación a la obediencia

1 »Ahora, israelitas, escuchen los preceptos y las normas que les enseñé, para que los pongan en práctica. Así vivirán y podrán entrar a la tierra que el SEÑOR, el Dios de sus antepasados, les da en posesión.

2 No añadan ni quiten palabra alguna a esto que yo les ordeno. Más bien, cumplan los mandamientos del SEÑOR su Dios.

3 »Ustedes vieron con sus propios ojos lo que el SEÑOR hizo en Baal Peor, y cómo el SEÑOR su Dios destruyó de entre ustedes a todos los que siguieron al dios de ese lugar.

4 Pero ustedes, los que se mantuvieron fieles al SEÑOR su Dios, todavía están vivos.

5 »Miren, yo les he enseñado los preceptos y las normas que me ordenó el SEÑOR mi Dios, para que ustedes los pongan en práctica en la tierra de la que ahora van a tomar posesión.

6 Obedézcanlos y pónganlos en práctica; así demostrarán su sabiduría e inteligencia ante las naciones. Ellas oirán todos estos preceptos, y dirán: “En verdad, este es un pueblo sabio e inteligente; ¡esta es una gran nación!”

7 ¿Qué otra nación hay tan grande como la nuestra? ¿Qué nación tiene dioses tan cerca de ella como lo está de nosotros el SEÑOR nuestro Dios cada vez que lo invocamos?

8 ¿Y qué nación hay tan grande que tenga normas y preceptos tan justos, como toda esta ley que hoy les expongo?

9 »¡Pero tengan cuidado! Presten atención y no olviden las cosas que han visto sus ojos, ni las aparten de su corazón mientras vivan. Cuéntenselas a sus hijos y a sus nietos.

10 El día que ustedes estuvieron ante el SEÑOR su Dios en Horeb, él me dijo: “Convoca al pueblo para que se presente ante mí y oiga mis palabras, para que aprenda a temerme todo el tiempo que viva en la tierra, y para que enseñe esto mismo a sus hijos”.

11 Ustedes se acercaron al pie de la montaña, y allí permanecieron, mientras la montaña ardía en llamas que llegaban hasta el cielo mismo, entre negros nubarrones y densa oscuridad.

12 Entonces el SEÑOR les habló desde el fuego, y ustedes oyeron el sonido de las palabras, pero no vieron forma alguna; solo se oía una voz.

13 El SEÑOR les dio a conocer su pacto, los diez mandamientos, los cuales escribió en dos tablas de piedra y les ordenó que los pusieran en práctica.

14 En aquel tiempo el SEÑOR me ordenó que les enseñara los preceptos y las normas que ustedes deberán poner en práctica en la tierra que van a poseer al cruzar el Jordán.

INTRODUCTION TO DEUTERONOMY 4

This chapter contains an exhortation to Israel to keep the commands, statutes, and judgments of God, urged from the superior excellency of them to those of all other nations, De 4:1-8, from the manner in which they were delivered, out of the midst of fire, by a voice of words, but no similitude seen, De 4:9-15, and particularly the Israelites are cautioned against idolatry, from the consideration of the goodness of God to them, in bringing them out of Egypt, De 4:16-20, and the rather Moses is urgent upon them to be diligent in their obedience to the laws of God, because he should quickly be removed from them, De 4:21-24, and should they be disobedient to them, it would provoke the Lord to destroy them, or to carry them captive into other lands, De 4:25-28 though even then, if they repented and sought the Lord, and became obedient, he would be merciful to them, and not forsake them, De 4:29-31 and they are put in mind again of the amazing things God had done for them, in speaking to them out of fire, and they alive; in bringing them out of another nation, and driving out other nations to make room for them; all which he improves, as so many arguments to move them to obedience to the divine commands, De 4:32-40 and then notice is taken of the three cities of refuge, separated on this side Jordan, De 4:41-43, and the chapter is concluded with observing, that this is the law, and these the testimonies, Moses declared and repeated to the children of Israel in the country of Sihon and Og, who were delivered into their hands, and their lands possessed by them, which laid them under fresh obligations to yield obedience to God, De 4:44-49.
