Deuteronomio 9:1-6

1 Oye, Israel: tú estás hoy para pasar el Jordán, para entrar a heredar lo de gentiles más numerosos y más fuertes que tú, ciudades grandes y encastilladas hasta el cielo

2 un pueblo grande y alto, hijos de gigantes, de los cuales tienes tú conocimiento, y has oído decir: ¿Quién se sostendrá delante de los hijos del Anac

3 Sepas, pues, hoy, que el SEÑOR tu Dios es el que pasa delante de ti, fuego consumidor, que los destruirá y humillará delante de ti; y tú los echarás, y los destruirás luego, como el SEÑOR te ha dicho

4 No pienses en tu corazón, cuando el SEÑOR tu Dios los haya echado de delante de tu presencia, diciendo: Por mi justicia me ha metido el SEÑOR a heredar esta tierra; pues por la impiedad de estos gentiles el SEÑOR los echa de delante de ti

5 No por tu justicia, ni por la rectitud de tu corazón entras a heredar la tierra de ellos; mas por la impiedad de estos gentiles el SEÑOR tu Dios los echa de delante de ti, y por confirmar la palabra que el SEÑOR juró a tus padres Abraham, Isaac, y Jacob

6 Por tanto, sepas que no por tu justicia el SEÑOR tu Dios te da esta buena tierra que la heredes; que pueblo duro de cerviz eres tú

INTRODUCTION TO DEUTERONOMY 9

In this chapter the Israelites are assured of the ejection of the Canaanites, though so great and mighty, to make room for them, De 9:1-3, and they are cautioned not to attribute this to their own righteousness, but to the wickedness of the nations which deserved to be so treated, and to the faithfulness of God in performing his promise made to their fathers, De 9:4-6, and that it might appear that it could not be owing to their righteousness, it is affirmed and proved that they had been a rebellious and provoking people from their coming out of Egypt to that time, as was evident from their idolatry at Horeb; a particular account of which is given, and of the displeasure of the Lord at it, De 9:7-21, and of their murmurings, with which they provoked the Lord at other places, De 9:22-24, and the chapter is closed with an account of the prayer of Moses for them at Horeb, to avert the wrath of God from them for their making and worshipping the golden calf, De 9:25-29.
