Esodo 8:1-10

1 Poi l’Eterno disse a Mosè: "Va’ da Faraone, e digli: Così dice l’Eterno: Lascia andare il mio popolo perché mi serva.

2 E se rifiuti di lasciarlo andare, ecco, io colpirò tutta l’estensione del tuo paese col flagello delle rane;

3 e il fiume brulicherà di rane, che saliranno ed entreranno nella tua casa, nella camera ove dormi, sul tuo letto, nelle case de’ tuoi servitori e fra il tuo popolo, ne’ tuoi forni e nelle tue madie.

4 E le rane assaliranno te, il tuo popolo e tutti i tuoi servitori".

5 E l’Eterno disse a Mosè: "Di’ ad Aaronne: Stendi la tua mano col tuo bastone sui fiumi, sui rivi e sugli stagni e fa salir le rane sul paese d’Egitto".

6 E Aaronne stese la sua mano sulle acque d’Egitto, e le rane salirono e coprirono il paese d’Egitto.

7 E i magi fecero lo stesso con le loro arti occulte, e fecero salire le rane sul paese d’Egitto.

8 Allora Faraone chiamò Mosè ed Aaronne e disse loro: "Pregate l’Eterno che allontani le rane da me e dal mio popolo, e io lascerò andare il popolo, perché offra sacrifizi all’Eterno".

9 E Mosè disse a Faraone: "Fammi l’onore di dirmi per quando io devo chiedere, nelle mie supplicazioni per te, per i tuoi servitori e per il tuo popolo, che l’Eterno distrugga le rane intorno a te e nelle tue case, e non ne rimanga se non nel fiume".

10 Egli rispose: "Per domani". E Mosè disse: "Sarà fatto come tu dici, affinché tu sappia che non v’è alcuno pari all’Eterno, ch’è il nostro Dio.

INTRODUCTION TO EXODUS 8

In this chapter Pharaoh is threatened with the plague of frogs, in case he refused to let Israel go, which accordingly was brought upon him, Ex 8:1-6 and though the magicians did something similar to it, yet these were so troublesome to Pharaoh, that he promised to let the people go, and sacrifice to God, if they removed; and a time being fixed for the removal of them, it was accordingly done at the entreaty of Moses and Aaron, Ex 8:7-14 but there being a respite, Pharaoh's heart was hardened, and the plague of lice is ordered, and which was executed; and though this the magicians essayed to do, and could not, but owned it to be the finger of God, yet Pharaoh's heart was hardened, Ex 8:15-19 wherefore he is threatened with a swarm of flies, which should not infest Goshen, only the places where the Egyptians dwelt, and it was so, Ex 8:20-24 upon which Pharaoh called for Moses, and declared himself willing the people would sacrifice in the land; but this not being satisfactory, he agreed they should go into the wilderness, but not so far; and on the account of the entreaty of Moses, the plague was removed; but still Pharaoh's heart was hardened, and he would not let the people go, Ex 8:25-32.
