Éxodo 23:20-33

El ángel del SEÑOR

20 »Date cuenta, Israel, que yo envío mi ángel delante de ti, para que te proteja en el camino y te lleve al lugar que te he preparado.

21 Préstale atención y obedécelo. No te rebeles contra él, porque va en representación mía y no perdonará tu rebelión.

22 Si lo obedeces y cumples con todas mis instrucciones, seré enemigo de tus enemigos y me opondré a quienes se te opongan.

23 Mi ángel te guiará y te introducirá en la tierra de estos pueblos que voy a exterminar: tierra de amorreos, hititas, ferezeos, cananeos, heveos y jebuseos.

24 »No te inclines ante los dioses de esos pueblos. No les rindas culto ni imites sus prácticas. Más bien, derriba sus ídolos y haz pedazos sus piedras sagradas.

25 »Adora al SEÑOR tu Dios, y él bendecirá tu pan y tu agua.»Yo apartaré de ustedes toda enfermedad.

26 »En tu país ninguna mujer abortará ni será estéril. ¡Yo te concederé larga vida!

27 »En toda nación donde pongas el pie haré que tus enemigos te tengan miedo, se turben y huyan de ti.

28 »Delante de ti enviaré avispas, para que ahuyenten a los heveos, cananeos e hititas.

29 Sin embargo, no los desalojaré en un solo año, no sea que, al quedarse desolada la tierra, aumente el número de animales salvajes y te ataquen.

30 Los desalojaré poco a poco, hasta que seas lo bastante fuerte para tomar posesión de la tierra.

31 »Extenderé las fronteras de tu país, desde el Mar Rojo hasta el mar Mediterráneo,^[a] y desde el desierto hasta el río Éufrates. Pondré bajo tu dominio a los que habitan allí, y tú los desalojarás.

32 »No hagas ningún pacto con ellos ni con sus dioses.

33 »Si los dejas vivir en tu tierra, te pondrán una trampa para que adores a sus dioses, y acabarás pecando contra mí».

Éxodo 23:20-33 Meaning and Commentary

INTRODUCTION TO EXODUS 23

This chapter contains several laws, chiefly judicial, relating to the civil polity of Israel, as concerning witness borne and judgment made of cases in courts of judicature, without any respect to poor or rich, and without the influence of a bribe, Ex 23:1-3,6-8, concerning doing good to an enemy in case any of his cattle go astray, or fall under their burden, Ex 23:4,5, and of the oppression of a stranger, Ex 23:9, and then follow others concerning the sabbath of the seventh year, and of the seventh day, with a caution against the use of the names of idols, Ex 23:10-13, next are laws concerning the appearance of all their males at the three feasts, Ex 23:14-17, and concerning the slaying of the sacrifice of the passover, and bringing the first of the firstfruits of the land, Ex 23:18,19 and then a promise is made of sending an angel to them to bring them into the land of Canaan, where they should carefully avoid all idolatry, and show a just indignation against it, and serve the Lord, and then it would be well with them, Ex 23:20-26, and particularly it is promised, that the Lord would send his fear, and his hornets, before them, to destroy the inhabitants of the land, and drive out the rest by little and little, until they should possess the utmost borders of it, which are fixed, Ex 23:27-31, and the chapter is concluded with a direction not to make a covenant with these people, or their gods, nor suffer them to dwell among them, lest they should be a snare unto them, Ex 23:32,33.
