Ezequiel 29:2-12

2 «Hijo de hombre, ponte de cara a Egipto y profetiza contra su rey —el faraón— y contra todo el pueblo egipcio.

3 Dales este mensaje de parte del Señor
Soberano:
»“Yo soy tu enemigo, oh faraón, rey de Egipto,
monstruo enorme que acechas en las corrientes del Nilo.
Pues has dicho: ‘El Nilo es mío;
lo hice para mí’.

4 Te pondré garfios en las mandíbulas
y te arrastraré hasta tierra firme
con peces pegados a tus escamas.

5 Te dejaré a ti y a tus peces
abandonados en el desierto para que mueran.
Quedarás sin sepultura tirado en campo abierto,
pues te daré como comida a los animales salvajes y a las aves.

6 Todos los habitantes de Egipto sabrán que yo soy el Señor
,
pues para Israel no fuiste más que una vara de juncos.

7 Cuando Israel se apoyó en ti,
te astillaste y te rompiste
y te clavaste en su axila.
Cuando Israel dejó caer su peso sobre ti, te quebraste
y se dislocó la espalda.

8 »”Por lo tanto, esto dice el Señor
Soberano: oh Egipto, enviaré un ejército contra ti y destruiré tanto a la gente como a los animales.

9 La tierra de Egipto se convertirá en una desolada tierra baldía y los egipcios sabrán que yo soy el Señor
.
»”Debido a que dijiste: ‘El Nilo es mío; yo lo hice’,

10 ahora soy enemigo tuyo y de tu río. Haré de Egipto una tierra totalmente desolada y baldía, desde Migdol hasta Asuán, y tan al sur como la frontera con Etiopía.

11 Durante cuarenta años nadie pasará por allí, ni personas ni animales. Quedará totalmente despoblada.

12 Haré de Egipto un lugar desolado, rodeado por otras naciones desoladas. Sus ciudades quedarán vacías y desoladas durante cuarenta años, rodeadas por otras ciudades en ruinas. Esparciré a los egipcios por tierras lejanas.

Ezequiel 29:2-12 Meaning and Commentary

INTRODUCTION TO EZEKIEL 29

This chapter contains a prophecy against Pharaoh king of Egypt; and of the destruction of the land of Egypt; and of the restoration of it after a certain time. The time of prophecy is noted, Eze 29:1, the order to prophesy against Pharaoh, who is described as a large fish, lying in his rivers, and boasting of them, Eze 29:2,3, his destruction and the manner of it, Eze 29:4,5, the reason of it, his treachery to the Jews, Eze 29:6,7, hence the whole land of Egypt is threatened with desolation, from one end to the other, so as to be uninhabited by man or beast for the space of forty years, Eze 29:8-14, but shall not arrive to their former glory as a kingdom, nor be any more the confidence of the house of Israel, Eze 29:15,16, then follows a prophecy seventeen years after this, showing the reason why Egypt was given to the king of Babylon, Eze 29:17-20, and the chapter is closed with a promise of happiness to Israel, Eze 29:21.
