7 Cuando los hombres que vivían allí le preguntaron a Isaac acerca de Rebeca, su esposa, él dijo: «Es mi hermana». Tenía temor de decir: «Ella es mi esposa» porque pensó: «Me matarán para conseguirla, pues es muy hermosa»;

8 pero tiempo después, Abimelec, rey de los filisteos, miró por la ventana y vio a Isaac acariciando a Rebeca.

9 Al instante, Abimelec mandó llamar a Isaac y exclamó:
—¡Es evidente que ella es tu esposa! ¿Por qué dijiste: “Es mi hermana”?
—Porque tuve temor de que alguien me matara para quitármela —contestó Isaac.

10 —¿Cómo pudiste hacernos semejante cosa? —exclamó Abimelec—. Uno de mis hombres bien podría haber tomado a tu esposa para dormir con ella, y tú nos habrías hecho culpables de un gran pecado.

11 Entonces Abimelec dio esta orden a todo el pueblo: «Cualquiera que toque a este hombre o a su esposa, ¡será ejecutado!».

12 Conflicto por los derechos del agua
Cuando Isaac sembró sus cultivos ese año, cosechó cien veces más grano del que había plantado, porque el Señor
lo bendijo.

13 Se hizo muy rico, y su riqueza siguió aumentando.

14 Adquirió tantos rebaños de ovejas y de cabras, manadas de ganado, y siervos, que los filisteos comenzaron a tenerle envidia.

15 Así que los filisteos taparon con tierra todos los pozos de Isaac. Eran los pozos que habían cavado los siervos de su padre Abraham.

16 Por último, Abimelec ordenó a Isaac que se fuera de la región. «Vete a algún otro lugar —le dijo—, porque te has hecho demasiado poderoso para nosotros».

17 Así que Isaac se mudó al valle de Gerar y allí armó sus carpas y se estableció.

INTRODUCTION TO GENESIS 26

This chapter treats of Isaac's removal to Gerar, occasioned by a famine, Ge 26:1; of the Lord's appearance to him there, advising him to sojourn in that place, and not go down to Egypt; renewing the covenant he had made with Abraham, concerning giving that country to him and his seed, Ge 26:2-6; of what happened unto him at Gerar on account of his wife, Ge 26:7-11; of Isaac's great prosperity and success, which drew the envy of the Philistines upon him, Ge 26:12-15; of his departure from hence to the valley of Gerar, at the instance of Abimelech; and of the contentions between his herdsmen, and those of Gerar, about wells of water, which caused him to remove to Beersheba, Ge 26:16-23; of the Lord's appearance to him there, renewing the above promise to him, where he built an altar, pitched his tent, and his servants dug a well, Ge 26:24,25; of Abimelech's coming to him thither, and making a covenant with him, Ge 26:26-31; which place had its name from the oath then made, and the well there dug, Ge 26:32,33; and lastly, of the marriage of Esau, which was a great grief to Isaac and Rebekah, Ge 26:34,35.
