Isaías 51:1-16

A Salvação Eterna para Sião

1 “Escutem-me, vocês que buscam a retidãoe procuram o SENHOR:Olhem para a rocha da qual foram cortadose para a pedreira de onde foram cavados;

2 olhem para Abraão, seu pai,e para Sara, que lhes deu à luz.Quando eu o chamei, ele era apenas um,e eu o abençoei e o tornei muitos”.

3 Com certeza o SENHOR consolará Siãoe olhará com compaixão para todas as ruínas dela;ele tornará seus desertos como o Éden,seus ermos, como o jardim do SENHOR.Alegria e contentamento serão achados nela,ações de graças e som de canções.

4 “Escute-me, povo meu;ouça-me, nação minha:A lei sairá de mim;minha justiça se tornará uma luz para as nações.

5 Minha retidão logo virá,minha salvação está a caminho,e meu braço trará justiça às nações.As ilhas esperarão em mim e aguardarãoesperançosamente pelo meu braço.

6 Ergam os olhos para os céus,olhem para baixo, para a terra;os céus desaparecerão como fumaça,a terra se gastará como uma roupa,e seus habitantes morrerão como moscas.Mas a minha salvação durará para sempre,a minha retidão jamais falhará.

7 “Ouçam-me, vocês que sabem o que é direito,vocês, povo que tem a minha lei no coração:Não temam a censura de homensnem fiquem aterrorizados com seus insultos.

8 Pois a traça os comerá como a uma roupa;o verme os devorará como à lã.Mas a minha retidão durará para sempre,a minha salvação de geração em geração”.

9 Desperta! Desperta! Veste de força,o teu braço, ó SENHOR;acorda, como em dias passados,como em gerações de outrora.Não foste tu que despedaçaste o Monstro dos Mares,^[a]que traspassaste aquela serpente aquática?

10 Não foste tu que secaste o mar,as águas do grande abismo,que fizeste uma estrada nas profundezas do marpara que os redimidos pudessem atravessar?

11 Os resgatados do SENHOR voltarão.Entrarão em Sião com cântico;alegria eterna coroará sua cabeça.Júbilo e alegria se apossarão deles,tristeza e suspiro deles fugirão.

12 “Eu, eu mesmo, sou quem a consola.Quem é você para que tema homens mortais,os filhos de homens, que não passam de relva,

13 e para que esqueça o SENHOR, aquele que fez você,que estendeu os céuse lançou os alicerces da terra,para que você viva diariamente, constantemente apavoradapor causa da ira do opressor,que está inclinado a destruir?Pois onde está a ira do opressor?

14 Os prisioneiros encolhidos logo serão postos em liberdade;não morrerão em sua masmorra,nem terão falta de pão.

15 Pois eu sou o SENHOR, o seu Deus,que agito o mar para que suas ondas rujam;SENHOR dos Exércitos é o meu nome.

16 Pus minhas palavras em sua bocae o cobri com a sombra da minha mão,eu, que pus os céus no lugar,que lancei os alicerces da terrae que digo a Sião: Você é o meu povo”.

Isaías 51:1-16 Meaning and Commentary

INTRODUCTION TO ISAIAH 51

This chapter gives the church and people of God reason to expect comfortable times and certain salvation, though they had many enemies. They are directed to look to Abraham and Sarah, signified by the rock and hole of the pit, and observe how he was called alone, blessed and increased; which should be improved as an argument to strengthen their faith, that God could and would bless and increase his church, though in a low estate, and bring it into a flourishing one, Isa 51:1-3. They are assured of the publication of the Gospel, expressed by the law, doctrine, and judgment of the Lord; by which means the righteousness and salvation of Christ should be brought nigh to them, as the object of their trust and confidence, Isa 51:4,5, and also of the perpetuity of his righteousness and salvation, when the heavens, and the earth, and the inhabitants of it, should decay, even their revilers and persecutors, and therefore they need not fear their reproaches and revilings, Isa 51:6-8, upon which follows a prayer of faith, that the Lord would exert his power as in former times, when he destroyed the Egyptians, and dried up the Red sea for Israel to pass through, the ransomed of the Lord; from whence it might be concluded, that the redeemed of the Lord would be brought into a very comfortable condition again, Isa 51:9-11 wherefore they had no reason to be afraid of men, since the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth, would deliver, comfort, and establish them, of which he assured them by his prophet, Isa 51:12-16, and though Jerusalem and her sons were, or would be, in a very distressed condition, through the sword and famine, which is described, Isa 51:17-20, yet they should be delivered out of it, and their persecutors should be brought into the same, Isa 51:21-23.
