Isaías 63:7-19

Oração e Louvor

7 Falarei da bondade do SENHOR,dos seus gloriosos feitos,por tudo o que o SENHOR fez por nós,sim, de quanto bem ele fezà nação de Israel,conforme a sua compaixão e a grandeza da sua bondade.

8 “Sem dúvida eles são o meu povo”, disse ele;“são filhos que não me vão trair”;e assim ele se tornou o Salvador deles.

9 Em toda a aflição do seu povo ele também se afligiu,e o anjo da sua presença os salvou.Em seu amor e em sua misericórdia ele os resgatou;foi ele que sempre os levantoue os conduziu nos dias passados.

10 Apesar disso, eles se revoltarame entristeceram o seu Espírito Santo.Por isso ele se tornou inimigo delese lutou pessoalmente contra eles.

11 Então o seu povo recordou^[a] o passado,o tempo de Moisés e a sua geração:Onde está aquele que os fez passar através do mar,com o pastor do seu rebanho?Onde está aquele que entre elespôs o seu Espírito Santo,

12 que com o seu glorioso braçoesteve à mão direita de Moisés,que dividiu as águas diante delespara alcançar renome eterno,

13 e os conduziu através das profundezas?Como o cavalo em campo aberto,eles não tropeçaram;

14 como o gado que desce à planície,foi-lhes dado descanso pelo Espírito do SENHOR.Foi assim que guiaste o teu povopara fazer para ti um nome glorioso.

15 Olha dos altos céus,da tua habitação elevada, santa e gloriosa.Onde estão o teu zelo e o teu poder?Retiveste a tua bondade e a tua compaixão; elas já nos faltam!

16 Entretanto, tu és o nosso Pai.Abraão não nos conhecee Israel nos ignora;tu, SENHOR, és o nosso Paie, desde a antiguidade, te chamas nosso Redentor.

17 SENHOR, por que nos fazes andar longe dos teus caminhose endureces o nosso coração para não termos temor de ti?Volta, por amor dos teus servos,por amor das tribos que são a tua herança!

18 Por pouco tempo o teu povo possuiu o teu santo lugar;depois os nossos inimigos pisotearam o teu santuário.

19 Somos teus desde a antiguidade,mas aqueles tu não governaste;eles não foram chamados pelo teu nome.^[b]

Isaías 63:7-19 Meaning and Commentary

INTRODUCTION TO ISAIAH 63

This chapter contains a prophecy of the vengeance of Christ upon the enemies of his church in the latter day, whereby complete salvation would be obtained for them; and this illustrated by the mercies of God to the people of Israel of old; and is concluded with the church s prayer to him. The account of the vengeance taken by Christ on his enemies is introduced by a colloquy between him and his church; who puts a question, in which he is described by the places from whence he came, by his apparel, and by his manner of walking; to which he returns an answer, Isa 63:1, then a second question is put, about the colour of his garments; for which he gives a reason, Isa 63:2,3 it being the time of his vengeance on his enemies, and of the redemption of his people, Isa 63:4 the manner in which he performed both is observed, Isa 63:5 and the thorough work he would make; and the entire riddance of all his enemies is determined upon, Isa 63:6, which puts the prophet, or the church, in mind of former mercies bestowed upon Israel of old, the peculiar people and children of God, the Lord had a great opinion of, and favour for, whom he dealt very tenderly with, and redeemed, and saved, and preserved, Isa 63:7-9 though they acted an ungrateful part to him, which is aggravated by the various kind steps of Providence, in leading them through the Red sea, guiding them in the wilderness, and bringing them to rest safely in Canaan's land, for his own glory, Isa 63:10-14 and all is closed with the church's prayer to God, imploring his grace and mercy; pleading relation to him; expostulating with him about their present case, and observing the difference between them and their enemies, Isa 63:15-19 and which prayer is continued in the next chapter.
