6
Then the sons of Judahdrewnear to Joshua in Gilgal, and 1Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzitesaid to him, "You know the wordwhich the LORDspoke to Moses the man of Godconcerning* you and me in Kadesh-barnea.
7
"I was fortyyearsold when 2Moses the servant of the LORDsent me from Kadesh-barnea to spy out the land, and I broughtwordback to him as it was in my heart.
8
"Nevertheless my brethrenwhowent up with me made the heart of the peoplemelt with fear; but 3I followed the LORD my Godfully.
9
"So Mosesswore on that day, saying, 'Surely*4the land on which your foot has trodden will be an inheritance to you and to your childrenforever*, because you have followed the LORD my Godfully.'
10
"Nowbehold, the LORD has let me live, just as He spoke, theseforty-five*years, from the time that the LORDspokethisword to Moses, whenIsraelwalked in the wilderness; and nowbehold, I am eighty-fiveyearsoldtoday.
11
"5I am still as strongtoday as I was in the dayMosessent me; as my strength was then, so my strength is now, for war and for 6going out and coming in.
12
"Now then, give me thishillcountry about which the LORDspoke on that day, for you heard on that day that 7Anakim were there, with greatfortifiedcities; perhaps the LORD will be with me, and I will drive them out as the LORD has spoken."
13
So Joshua8blessed him and 9gaveHebron to Caleb the son of Jephunneh for an inheritance.
14
Therefore*, Hebronbecame the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizziteuntilthisday, because* he followed the LORDGod of Israelfully.
15
Now the name of Hebron was formerlyKiriath-arba; for Arba was the greatestman among the Anakim. 10Then the landhadrest from war.
