Jueces 11:26-36

26 Además, Israel ha estado habitando por trescientos años en Hesbón y sus aldeas, en Aroer y sus aldeas, y todas las ciudades que están a los términos de Arnón, ¿por qué no las habéis recobrado en ese tiempo

27 Así que, yo nada he pecado contra ti, mas tú haces mal conmigo haciéndome guerra; el SEÑOR, que es el juez, juzgue hoy entre los hijos de Israel y los hijos de Amón

28 Mas el rey de los hijos de Amón no oyó las razones de Jefté que le envió

29 Y el Espíritu del SEÑOR fue sobre Jefté; y pasó por Galaad y Manasés, y de allí pasó a Mizpa de Galaad, y de Mizpa de Galaad pasó a los hijos de Amón

30 Y Jefté hizo voto al SEÑOR, diciendo: Si entregares a los amonitas en mis manos

31 cualquiera que me saliere a recibir de las puertas de mi casa, cuando volviere de los amonitas en paz, será del SEÑOR, y le ofreceré en holocausto

32 Pasó pues Jefté a los hijos de Amón para pelear contra ellos; y el SEÑOR los entregó en su mano

33 Y los hirió de grandísimo estrago desde Aroer hasta llegar a Minit, veinte ciudades; y hasta la vega de las viñas. Así fueron dominados los amonitas delante de los hijos de Israel

34 Y volviendo Jefté a Mizpa a su casa, he aquí que su hija le salió a recibir con adufes y danzas, y era la sola, la única suya; no tenía fuera de ella otro hijo ni hija

35 Y cuando él la vio, rompió sus vestidos diciendo: ¡Ay, hija mía! Me has abatido mucho, y tú eres de los que me afligen; porque yo he abierto mi boca al SEÑOR, y no podré retractarme

36 Ella entonces le respondió: Padre mío, si has abierto tu boca al SEÑOR, haz de mí como salió de tu boca, pues que el SEÑOR te ha hecho venganza de tus enemigos los hijos de Amón

INTRODUCTION TO JUDGES 11

This chapter gives an account of another judge of Israel, Jephthah, of his descent and character, Jud 11:1-3 of the call the elders of Gilead gave him to be their captain general, and lead out their forces against the Ammonites, and the agreement he made with them, Jud 11:4-11 of the message he sent to the children of Ammon, which brought on a dispute between him and them about the land Israel possessed on that side Jordan the Ammonites claimed; Israel's right to which Jephthah defended, and made it clearly to appear, hoping thereby to put an end to the quarrel without shedding of blood, Jud 11:12-27 but the children of Ammon not attending to what he said, he prepared to give them battle, and previous to it he made a vow, and then set forward and fought them, and got the victory over them, Jud 11:28-33 and the chapter concludes with the difficulties Jephthah was embarrassed with upon his return home, on account of his vow, and the performance of it, Jud 11:34-40.
