Jueces 19:1-8

1 En aquellos días, cuando no había rey en Israel, hubo un levita que moraba como peregrino en los lados del monte de Efraín, el cual se había tomado mujer concubina de Belén de Judá

2 Y su concubina adulteró contra él, y se fue de él a casa de su padre, a Belén de Judá, y estuvo allá por tiempo de cuatro meses

3 Y se levantó su marido, y la siguió, para hablarle amorosamente y hacerla volver, llevando consigo un criado suyo y un par de asnos; y ella le hizo entrar en la casa de su padre

4 Y viéndole el padre de la joven, le salió a recibir gozoso; y le detuvo su suegro, el padre de la joven, y se quedó en su casa tres días, comiendo y bebiendo, y morando allí

5 Y al cuarto día, cuando se levantaron de mañana, se levantó también el levita para irse, y el padre de la joven dijo a su yerno: Fortalezca tu corazón con un bocado de pan, y después os iréis

6 Y se sentaron ellos dos juntos, y comieron y bebieron. Y el padre de la joven dijo al varón: Yo te ruego que te quedes aquí esta noche, y se alegrará tu corazón

7 Y levantándose el varón para irse, el suegro le constriñó a que volviera a pasar la noche allí

8 Y al quinto día levantándose de mañana para irse, le dijo el padre de la joven: Fortalezca ahora tu corazón. Y habiendo comido ambos juntos, se detuvieron hasta que ya declinaba el día

INTRODUCTION TO JUDGES 19

This chapter gives an account of a sad affair of a Levite and his concubine, and of the bad consequence of it, how that she played the whore, and went away from him to her father's house, whither he followed her, and where he was kindly entertained by her father several days, Jud 19:1-9 and then set out on his journey to his own country; and passing by Jebus or Jerusalem, he came to Gibeah, and could get no lodging, Jud 19:10-15, but at length was taken in by an old man, an Ephraimite, Jud 19:16-21 when the house where he was beset by some wicked men in Gibeah, with the same intent as the men of Sodom beset the house of Lot, Jud 19:22-24 and after some expostulation of the old man with them, the concubine was brought out to them and abused by them even unto death, Jud 19:25-28 upon which the Levite her husband cut her into twelve pieces, and sent them into all the coasts of Israel, which was shocking and surprising, Jud 19:29,30 the consequence of which is related in the next chapter.
