Jueces 20:17-27

17 Entonces los hombres de Israel, fuera de Benjamín, fueron contados, cuatrocientos mil hombres que sacaban espada; todos estos eran hombres de guerra.

18 Los hijos de Israel se levantaron, subieron a Betel, y consultaron a Dios, y dijeron: ¿Quién de nosotros subirá primero a pelear contra los hijos de Benjamín? Entonces el SEÑOR dijo: Judá subirá primero.

19 Los hijos de Israel se levantaron por la mañana y acamparon contra Guibeá.

20 Y los hombres de Israel salieron a combatir contra Benjamín, y los hombres de Israel se pusieron en orden de batalla contra ellos en Guibeá.

21 Pero los hijos de Benjamín salieron de Guibeá y derribaron por tierra en aquel día veintidós mil hombres de Israel.

22 Pero el pueblo, los hombres de Israel, se reanimaron, y se pusieron otra vez en orden de batalla en el lugar donde se habían puesto el primer día.

23 Y subieron los hijos de Israel y lloraron delante del SEÑOR hasta la noche, y consultaron al SEÑOR, diciendo: ¿Nos acercaremos otra vez para combatir contra los hijos de mi hermano Benjamín? Y el SEÑOR dijo: Subid contra él.

24 Entonces los hijos de Israel fueron contra los hijos de Benjamín el segundo día.

25 Y salió Benjamín de Guibeá contra ellos el segundo día y otra vez hizo caer dieciocho mil hombres de los hijos de Israel; todos éstos sacaban espada.

26 Todos los hijos de Israel y todo el pueblo subieron y vinieron a Betel y lloraron; y permanecieron allí delante del SEÑOR y ayunaron ese día hasta la noche. Y ofrecieron holocaustos y ofrendas de paz delante del SEÑOR.

27 Y consultaron los hijos de Israel al SEÑOR (porque el arca del pacto de Dios estaba allí en aquellos días,

Jueces 20:17-27 Meaning and Commentary

INTRODUCTION TO JUDGES 20

This chapter relates, how that there was an assembly of the children of Israel at Mizpeh, upon what had happened to the concubine of the Levite, where he appeared and related the whole affair to them, Jud 20:1-7 upon which they unanimously agreed to chastise the inhabitants of Gibeah for what they had done, Jud 20:8-11, and in order to do that sent to the tribe of Benjamin to deliver the guilty, but instead of that they took to their arms, and prepared for battle in defence of them, Jud 20:12-17 and two battles ensued on this, in which the Israelites, who were on the right side of the question, were worsted, Jud 20:18-25 but upon their seeking the Lord again, and their humiliation before him, they engaged a third time in battle, and got an entire victory over the Benjaminites, and destroyed them all excepting six hundred men, Jud 20:26-48.
