10 Then he said to them, 1"Nation will rise against nation, and 2kingdom against kingdom.

There will be great 3earthquakes, and in various places 4famines and pestilences. And there will be 5terrors and great 6signs from heaven.

But before all this 7they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to 8the synagogues and 9prisons, and you 10will be brought before 11kings and 12governors for my name's sake.

13This will be your opportunity to bear witness.

Settle it therefore in your minds 14not to meditate beforehand how to answer,
15
for 15I will give you a mouth and 16wisdom, which none of your adversaries will be able to withstand or 17contradict.

You will be delivered up 18even by parents and brothers[a] and relatives and friends, and some of you they will put to death.
