Psaume 49:1-9

1 Au maître-chantre. Psaume des enfants de Coré.

2 Écoutez ceci, vous tous les peuples; prêtez l'oreille, vous tous les habitants du monde!

3 Enfants du peuple et enfants des grands, le riche aussi bien que le pauvre.

4 Ma bouche prononcera des paroles sages, et les pensées de mon cœur sont pleines de sens.

5 Je vais prêter l'oreille aux discours sentencieux; j'expose mon énigme au son de la harpe.

6 Pourquoi craindrais-je aux jours du malheur, quand l'iniquité de mes adversaires m'environne?

7 Ils se confient en leurs biens, ils se glorifient de l'abondance de leurs richesses.

8 Mais l'homme ne saurait racheter son frère, ni payer à Dieu sa rançon.

9 Car le rachat de leur âme est trop cher, et il ne se fera jamais,

Psaume 49:1-9 Meaning and Commentary

To the chief Musician, A Psalm for the sons of Korah. Aben Ezra says this psalm is a very excellent one, since in it is explained the Light of the world to come, and of the rational and immortal soul; and Kimchi is of opinion that it respects both this world and that which is to come: and indeed it treats of the vanity of trusting in riches: of the insufficiency of them for the redemption of the soul; of the short continuance of worldly honour and substance; of the certainty of death, and of the resurrection of the dead. And the design of it is to expose the folly of trusting in uncertain riches, and to comfort the people of God under the want of them.
