Salmi 97:2-12

2 Nuvola e caligine sono d’intorno a lui; Giustizia e giudicio sono il fermo sostegno del suo trono.

3 Fuoco va davanti a lui, E divampa i suoi nemici d’ogn’intorno.

4 I suoi folgori alluminano il mondo; La terra l’ha veduto, ed ha tremato.

5 I monti si struggono come cera per la presenza del Signore, Per la presenza del Signor di tutta la terra.

6 I cieli predicano la sua giustizia, E tutti i popoli veggono la sua gloria.

7 Tutti quelli che servono alle sculture, Che si gloriano negl’idoli, sien confusi, adoratelo, dii tutti.

8 Sion l’ha udito, e se n’è rallegrata; E le figliuole di Giuda hanno festeggiato Per li tuoi giudicii, o Signore.

9 Perciocchè tu sei il Signore, l’Eccelso sopra tutta la terra; Tu sei grandemente innalzato sopra tutti gl’iddii.

10 Voi che amate il Signore, odiate il male; Egli guarda le anime de’ suoi santi; E le riscuote di man degli empi.

11 La luce è seminata al giusto; E l’allegrezza a quelli che son diritti di cuore.

12 Rallegratevi, o giusti, nel Signore; E celebrate la memoria della sua santità.

INTRODUCTION TO PSALM 97

This psalm is ascribed to David by the Septuagint, Vulgate Latin, Syriac, Arabic, and Ethiopic versions. It is of the same argument, and upon the same subject, as the preceding, the coming and kingdom of Christ; and that it respects his first coming into the world, when angels were called upon to worship him, appears from Ps 97:7 compared with Heb 1:6 though it is expressed in such language as seems to agree with his second coming; and, perhaps, both are included, with various things between the one and the other; or it respects the kingdom of Christ, from his first to his second coming; to which agrees the inscription of the Syriac version, which is

``a Psalm of David, in which he prophesies concerning the coming of the Messiah, and again he intimates in it his last appearance.''
