Salmos 97:1-10

1 ¡El SEÑOR es rey! ¡Regocíjese la tierra!¡Alégrense las costas más remotas!

2 Oscuros nubarrones lo rodean;la rectitud y la justicia son la base de su trono.

3 El fuego va delante de ély consume a los adversarios que lo rodean.

4 Sus relámpagos iluminan el mundo;al verlos, la tierra se estremece.

5 Ante el SEÑOR, dueño de toda la tierra,las montañas se derriten como cera.

6 Los cielos proclaman su justicia,y todos los pueblos contemplan su gloria.

7 Sean avergonzados todos los idólatras,los que se jactan de sus ídolos inútiles.¡Póstrense ante él todos los dioses!

8 SEÑOR, por causa de tus juiciosSión escucha esto y se alegra,y las ciudades de Judá se regocijan.

9 Porque tú eres el SEÑORAltísimo,por encima de toda la tierra.¡Tú estás muy por encima de todos los dioses!

10 El SEÑOR ama^[a] a los que odian^[b] el mal;él protege la vida de sus fieles,y los libra de manos de los impíos.

Salmos 97:1-10 Meaning and Commentary

INTRODUCTION TO PSALM 97

This psalm is ascribed to David by the Septuagint, Vulgate Latin, Syriac, Arabic, and Ethiopic versions. It is of the same argument, and upon the same subject, as the preceding, the coming and kingdom of Christ; and that it respects his first coming into the world, when angels were called upon to worship him, appears from Ps 97:7 compared with Heb 1:6 though it is expressed in such language as seems to agree with his second coming; and, perhaps, both are included, with various things between the one and the other; or it respects the kingdom of Christ, from his first to his second coming; to which agrees the inscription of the Syriac version, which is

``a Psalm of David, in which he prophesies concerning the coming of the Messiah, and again he intimates in it his last appearance.''
