The Meaning of Being "Born Again"

Christianity.com: What does it mean to be born again?-Colin Smith from christianitydotcom2 on GodTube.

To be born again simply means to have the life of God come into your soul, in the same way as we have life by natural birth.

So a new life comes to us when the Holy Spirit of God enters into a person's experience. Takes us from being dead towards God, which is how we are by nature, to being alive towards God. And Jesus speaks about this, about the Holy Spirit being like the wind. You know, you can't tie the Holy Spirit down, he works in his own way. And in the same way, that is how new birth comes to us.

The great significance of this is that it goes to the heart to what it really means to be a Christian. A lot of people have the idea that to be a Christian is simply to believe certain Christian things, you know, to sign off on a sort of creedal statement and so forth.

Well, for sure to be a Christian involves believing the great and central truths of the Christian faith, but it's more than that. It involves the life of God actually coming into a person who has been dead towards God and making this person alive towards God. So that there's life in you.

This is why Jesus says, "I'm the vine and you are the branches." It's not just you know, Jesus is here and I'm over here, and I believe certain things about him. It is that the life of Christ actually comes into the experience of the one who is a Christian believer. Christ in you is the hope of glory. And the new birth is really all of that beginning to happen.
