1And it came to pass , that onone of thosedays, as hetaught the peoplein the temple, and preached the gospel , the chief priestsand the scribes came upon him with the elders,2Andspakeuntohim,saying , Tellus, bywhatauthority doest thou these things?orwho is he that gavetheethisauthority?3And he answered and saiduntothem,Iwillalsoaskyouonething;andanswerme:4The baptism of John, was itfromheaven,orofmen?5And they reasonedwiththemselves, saying , If we shall say , Fromheaven; he will say , Whythen believed yehimnot?6
But andif we say , Ofmen;all the people will stoneus:for they bepersuaded that Johnwas a prophet.7And they answered , that they couldnottellwhence it was.
8AndJesussaid unto them,NeithertellIyoubywhatauthority I do these things.9Then began he to speakto the peoplethisparable;A certainmanplanted a vineyard, andletitforth to husbandmen, and went into a far country for a longtime.10Andat the season he sent a servantto the husbandmen, that they should givehimof the fruit of the vineyard:but the husbandmenbeathim, and sent him awayempty.11Andagain he sentanotherservant:and they beat him also, and entreated him shamefully , and sent him awayempty.12Andagain he sent a third:and they woundedhimalso, and cast him out .13Thensaid the lord of the vineyard,What shall I do ? I will sendmybelovedson: it may be they will reverence him when they seehim.14But when the husbandmensawhim, they reasonedamongthemselves, saying , Thisis the heir:come , let us killhim, that the inheritance may beours.15So they casthim out of the vineyard, and killed him. Whatthereforeshall the lord of the vineyarddo unto them?16He shall comeanddestroythesehusbandmen, and shall give the vineyard to others. And when they heard it, they said , God forbid .17And he beheldthem, and said , Whatisthisthen that is written , The stonewhich the buildersrejected , the same is become the headof the corner?18Whosoever shall falluponthatstone shall be broken ; butonwhomsoeverit shall fall , it will grindhim to powder .19And the chief priestsand the scribes the samehoursought to layhandsonhim;and they feared the people:for they perceivedthat he had spokenthisparableagainstthem.20And they watched him, and sent forthspies, which should feignthemselves just men, that they might take hold of hiswords, that so they might deliverhim unto the powerandauthority of the governor.21And they askedhim, saying , Master, we knowthat thou sayestandteachestrightly , neither acceptest thou the person of any, butteachest the way of Godtruly :a22
Is it lawful for us to givetribute unto Caesar,orno?23But he perceivedtheircraftiness, and saiduntothem,Why tempt yeme?24Shewme a penny.Whoseimageandsuperscription hath it ? They answeredandsaid , Caesar's.25And he said unto them,Rendertherefore unto Caesar the things which beCaesar's,and unto God the things which beGod's.26And they couldnot take hold of hiswordsbefore the people:and they marvelledathisanswer, and held their peace .
27Thencame to him certain of the Sadducees, whichdeny that there isanyresurrection; and they askedhim,28Saying , Master,Moseswrote unto us,If any man'sbrotherdie , having a wife, andhedie without children, thathisbrother should take his wife, and raise upseed unto hisbrother.29
There werethereforesevenbrethren:and the firsttook a wife, and died without children.30And the secondtook her to wife,andhediedchildless.31And the thirdtookher;and in like manner the sevenalso: and they leftnochildren, anddied .
32Last of all the womandiedalso.33Thereforein the resurrectionwhosewife of them is she ? forsevenhadher to wife.34AndJesusansweringsaid unto them,The children of thisworldmarry , and are given in marriage :35But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtainthatworld, and the resurrectionfrom the dead, neithermarry , nor are given in marriage :36Neithercan they die any more:for they are equal unto the angels;andare the children of God,being the children of the resurrection.37Nowthat the dead are raised , evenMosesshewedat the bush, when he calleth the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.38For he isnot a God of the dead, but of the living : foralllive unto him.39Thencertain of the scribesansweringsaid , Master, thou hast wellsaid .
40And after that they durstnotaskhimany question at all.
41And he saiduntothem,Howsay they that ChristisDavid'sson?42AndDavidhimselfsaithin the book of Psalms, The LORDsaid unto myLord, Sit thouonmy right hand,43TillImakethineenemiesthyfootstool .44DavidthereforecallethhimLord,how is hethenhisson?45Then in the audience of all the people he said unto hisdisciples,46Bewareof the scribes, whichdesire to walkin long robes, andlovegreetingsin the markets, and the highest seatsin the synagogues, and the chief roomsatfeasts;47Whichdevourwidows'houses,and for a shewmakelongprayers : the same shall receivegreaterdamnation.
