We know that the law is good1 if one uses it properly.
We also know that lawa is made not for the righteous2 but for lawbreakers and rebels,3 the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious; for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers,
for adulterers and perverts, for slave traders and liars and perjurers--and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine411
that conforms to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which he entrusted to me.5
I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength,6 that he considered me faithful, appointing me to his service.713
Even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor8 and a violent man, I was shown mercy9 because I acted in ignorance and unbelief.1014
The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly,11 along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.1215
Here is a trustworthy saying13 that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners14--of whom I am the worst.
But for that very reason I was shown mercy15 so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his unlimited patience16 as an example for those who would believe17 on him and receive eternal life.1817
