Now 1Davidassembled at Jerusalemall the officials of Israel, the princes of the tribes, and the commanders of the divisions that served the king, and the commanders of thousands, and the commanders of hundreds, and the overseers of all the property and livestock belonging to the king and his sons, with the officials and 2the mightymen, even all the valiantmen.
Then KingDavidrose to his feet and said, "Listen to me, my brethren and my people; I 3had aintended to build a bpermanenthome for the ark of the covenant of the LORD and for 4the footstool of our God. So I had madepreparations to build it.
"But Godsaid to me, '5You shall not build a house for My namebecause you are a man of war and have shedblood.'
"Yet, the LORD, the God of Israel, 6chose me from all the house of my father to be kingoverIsrael7forever. For 8He has chosenJudah to be a leader; and 9in the house of Judah, my father'shouse, and among the sons of my father He tookpleasure in me to make me kingoverallIsrael.
"10Of all my sons (for the LORD has given me manysons ), 11He has chosen my sonSolomon to sit on the throne of the kingdom of the LORDoverIsrael.
"He said to me, 'Your son12Solomon is the one who shall build My house and My courts; for I have chosen him to be a son to Me, and I will be a father to him.
'I will establish his kingdomforever13if he resolutelyperforms My commandments and My ordinances, as cis done now.'
"So now, in the sight of allIsrael, the assembly of the LORD, and in the hearing of our God, observe and seekafterall the commandments of the LORD your Godso that you may possess the goodland and bequeath it to your sonsafter you forever .
