And God said, "Let there be lights1 in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night,2 and let them serve as signs3 to mark seasons4 and days and years,5

and let them be lights in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth." And it was so.6

God made two great lights--the greater light7 to govern8 the day and the lesser light to govern9 the night.10 He also made the stars.11

God set them in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth,

to govern the day and the night,12 and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good.13
