A Prophecy Against the Philistines

28 This prophecy1 came in the year2 King Ahaz3 died: 29 Do not rejoice, all you Philistines,4 that the rod that struck you is broken; from the root of that snake will spring up a viper,5 its fruit will be a darting, venomous serpent.6 30 The poorest of the poor will find pasture, and the needy7 will lie down in safety.8 But your root I will destroy by famine;9 it will slay10 your survivors.11 31 Wail,12 you gate!13 Howl, you city! Melt away, all you Philistines!14 A cloud of smoke comes from the north,15 and there is not a straggler in its ranks.16 32 What answer shall be given to the envoys17 of that nation? "The LORD has established Zion,18 and in her his afflicted people will find refuge.19"
