11Jesus, therefore, sixdaysbefore2the Passover, came to 3BethanywhereLazarus was, whomJesus had raised from the dead.
2So they made Him a supperthere, and 4Martha was serving; but Lazarus was one of thosereclining at the table with Him.
35Marythentook a apound of verycostly6perfume of purenard, and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped His feet with her hair; and the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.
But 7JudasIscariot, one of His disciples, who was intending to bbetray Him, said,
5"Why was thisperfume not sold for cthreehundreddenarii and given to poor people?"
6Now he saidthis, not because he was concernedabout the poor, but because he was a thief, and as he 8had the moneybox, he used to pilfer9what was put into it.
7ThereforeJesussaid, "Let her alone, so that she may keepdit for 10the day of My burial.8"11For you alwayshave the poor with you, but you do not alwayshave Me."9
The 12largecrowd of the Jewsthenlearned that He was there; and they came, not for Jesus'sakeonly, but that they might alsoseeLazarus, 13whom He raised from the dead.
But the chiefpriestsplanned to putLazarus to deathalso;
11because14on account of him 15many of the Jews were goingaway and were believing in Jesus.
