So they made Him a supperthere, and 4Martha was serving; but Lazarus was one of thosereclining at the table with Him.
3
5Marythentook a pound of verycostly6perfume of purenard, and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped His feet with her hair; and the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.

But 7JudasIscariot, one of His disciples, who was intending to betray Him, said,
5
"Why* was thisperfume not sold for threehundreddenarii and given to poor people?"
6
Now he saidthis, not because he was concernedabout the poor, but because he was a thief, and as he 8had the moneybox, he used to pilfer9what was put into it.
7
ThereforeJesussaid, "Let her alone, so that she may keep it for 10the day of My burial.
8
"11For you alwayshave the poor with you, but you do not alwayshave Me."
9
The 12largecrowd of the Jewsthenlearned that He was there; and they came, not for Jesus'sakeonly, but that they might alsoseeLazarus, 13whom He raised from the dead.
10
But the chiefpriestsplanned to putLazarus to deathalso;
