Then Jonahwent out from the city and sateast of ait. There he made a shelter for himself and 1satunder it in the shadeuntil he could seewhat would happen in the city.

So the LORDGodappointed a bplant and it grew up overJonah to be a shadeover his head to deliver him from his discomfort. And Jonah was cextremelyhappyabout the dplant.

But Godappointed a worm when dawncame the nextday and it attacked the plant and it 2withered.

When the suncame up Godappointed a scorching3eastwind, and the 4sunbeatdown on Jonah'shead so that he becamefaint and begged with all his soul to die, saying, "5Death is better to me thanlife."

Then Godsaid to Jonah, "Do you have goodreason to be angryabout the plant ?" And he said, "I have goodreason to be angry, even to death."

Then the LORDsaid, "You hadcompassion on the plant for which you did not work and which you did not cause to grow, whichecame up overnight and perishedfovernight .

"Should I not 6havecompassion on Nineveh, the greatcity in whichthere are morethan120,000personswho do not 7know the difference between their right and lefthand, as well as many8animals ?"
