471While He was stillspeaking, behold, a crowd came, and the one calledJudas, one of the twelve, was preceding them; and he approachedJesus to kiss Him.
48
But Jesussaid to him, "Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss ?"49
When thosewho were around Him saw what was going to happen, they said, "Lord, shall we strike with the 2sword ?"
50
And one of them struck the slave of the highpriest and cutoff his rightear.
51
But Jesusanswered and said, "aStop ! Nomore of this." And He touched his ear and healed him.
52ThenJesussaid to the chiefpriests and 3officers of the temple and elders who had comeagainst Him, "Have you come out with swords and clubs4as you would against a robber ?53"While I was with you daily in the temple, you did not layhands on Me; but bthishour and the power of darkness are yours."
545Having arrested Him, they led Him away and brought Him to the house of the highpriest ; but 6Peter was following at a distance.
557After they had kindled a fire in the middle of 8the courtyard and had satdowntogether, Peter was sittingamong them.
56
And a servant-girl, seeing him as he sat in the firelight and lookingintently at him, said, "Thisman was with Him too."
57
But he denied it, saying, "Woman, I do not know Him."
58
A littlelater, 9anothersaw him and said, "You are one of them too !" But Petersaid, "Man, I am not!"
59
After about an hour had passed, anotherman began to insist, saying, "Certainlythismanalso was with Him, 10for he is a Galileantoo."
60
But Petersaid, "Man, I do not knowwhat you are talking about." Immediately, while he was stillspeaking, a roostercrowed.
6111The Lordturned and looked at Peter. And Peterremembered the word of the Lord, how He had told him, "12Before a roostercrowstoday, you will deny Me threetimes."62
And he went out and weptbitterly.
6313Now the men who were holdingcJesus in custody were mocking Him and beating Him,
64
and they blindfolded Him and were asking Him, saying, "14Prophesy, who is the one who hit You?"
65
