14Moreover, from the day that I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, from 1the twentiethyear to the 2thirty-secondyear of KingArtaxerxes, for twelveyears, neither I nor my akinsmen have eaten the governor'sfood allowance.
But the formergovernorswho were before me blaidburdens on the people and took from them bread and winebesidesfortyshekels of silver; even their servantsdomineered the people. But I did not doso3because of the fear of God.
I alsocapplied myself to the work on thiswall; we did not buy any land, and all my servants were gatheredthere for the work.
Moreover, 4there were at my table one hundred and fiftyJews and officials, besides those who came to us from the nations that were around us.
Now 5that which was prepared for each day was oneox and sixchoicesheep, also birds were prepared for me; and once in tendaysall sorts of wine were furnished in abundance. Yet for all this6I did not demand the governor'sfood allowance, because the servitude was heavy on thispeople.
197Remember me, O my God, for good, according to all that I have done for thispeople.
