for he is our God and we are the people of his pasture,1 the flock under his care. Today, if you hear his voice,
do not harden your hearts2 as you did at Meribah,a3 as you did that day at Massahb in the desert,49
where your fathers tested5 and tried me, though they had seen what I did.
For forty years6 I was angry with that generation; I said, "They are a people whose hearts go astray,7 and they have not known my ways."811
So I declared on oath9 in my anger, "They shall never enter my rest."10
