do not harden your hearts1 as you did at Meribah,a2 as you did that day at Massahb in the desert,3

where your fathers tested4 and tried me, though they had seen what I did.

For forty years5 I was angry with that generation; I said, "They are a people whose hearts go astray,6 and they have not known my ways."7

So I declared on oath8 in my anger, "They shall never enter my rest."9
