14"When you enter the landwhich the LORD your Godgives you, and you 1possess it and live in it, and you say, '2I will set a kingover me like all the nationswho are around me,'
you shall surelyset a kingover you whom the LORD your Godchooses, one 3from among your acountrymen you shall set as kingover yourselves; you may not put a foreignerover yourselves who is not your bcountryman.
"4Moreover, he shall not multiplyhorses for himself, nor shall he 5cause the people to return to Egypt to multiplyhorses, since 6the LORD has said to you, 'You shall neveragainreturn that way.'
"7He shall not multiplywives for himself, corelse his heart will turnaway ; nor shall he greatlyincreasesilver and gold for himself.
"Now it shall come about when he sits on the throne of his kingdom, he shall write for himself a copy of thislaw on a scrolld8in the presence of the Leviticalpriests.
"It shall be with him and he shall read it 9all the days of his life, that he may learn to fear the LORD his God, eby carefullyobservingall the words of thislaw and thesestatutes,
that his heart may not be lifted up above his fcountrymen10and that he may not turnaside from the commandment, to the right or the left, so that he and his sons may continuelong in his kingdom in the midst of Israel.
