Now the name of Hebron was formerly Kiriath-arba ; for Arba was the greatest man among the Anakim. Then the land had rest from war.
Then he went up from there against the inhabitants of Debir ; now the name of Debir formerly was Kiriath-sepher.
However, Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, had no sons, only daughters ; and these are the names of his daughters : Mahlah and Noah, Hoglah, Milcah and Tirzah.
The territory of the sons of Dan proceeded beyond them; for the sons of Dan went up and fought with Leshem and captured it. Then they struck it with the edge of the sword and possessed it and settled in it; and they called Leshem Dan after the name of Dan their father.
They gave these cities which are here mentioned by name from the tribe of the sons of Judah and from the tribe of the sons of Simeon ;
so that you will not associate with these nations, these which remain among you, or mention the name of their gods, or make anyone swear by them, or serve them, or bow down to them.
