John 17:16

16 They don't belong to this world, just as I don't belong to this world.

John 17:16 Meaning and Commentary

John 17:16

They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
] These words are repeated from ( John 17:14 ) , where they are given as a reason of the world's hatred to them; and here, as showing that they are exposed to the evil of it; and in both are used as an argument with his Father, that he would take notice of them, and preserve them.

John 17:16 In-Context

14 I gave your word to them and the world hated them, because they don't belong to this world, just as I don't belong to this world.
15 I'm not asking that you take them out of this world but that you keep them safe from the evil one.
16 They don't belong to this world, just as I don't belong to this world.
17 Make them holy in the truth; your word is truth.
18 As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world.
