Joshua 15:11 Meaning and Commentary

Joshua 15:11

And the border went out unto the side of Ekron northward
Which was one of the principalities of the Philistines; and which, though it fell to the lot of Judah, ( Joshua 15:45 ) , was not possessed by them:

and the border was drawn to Shicron, and passed along to Mount Baalah;
of which places we have no account elsewhere:

and went unto Jabneel;
which Masius makes no doubt was one of the Jamnias, and particularly that which was a seaport; which Strabo says

FOOTNOTES:

F1 was distant from Azotus and Ashkelon about two hundred furlongs, or twenty five miles:

and the goings out of the border were at the sea;
the Mediterranean sea; here the northern border ended.

Joshua 15:11 In-Context

9 The border turned from the top of the mountain to the waters of Nephtoah Spring and went to the cities of Mount Ephron. The border turned toward Baalah (that is, Kiriath-jearim).
10 The border turned westward from Baalah to Mount Seir. It passed on to the slope of Mount Jearim on the north (that is, Chesalon), went down to Beth-shemesh, and passed by Timnah.
11 The border went to the slope of Ekron on the north. The border turned toward Shikkeron, passed on to Mount Baalah, and went to Jabneel. The border ended at the sea.
12 The west border was the Mediterranean Sea and its shoreline. This was the border surrounding the clans of the Judahites.
13 In agreement with the LORD's command to him, Joshua gave a portion among the Judahites to Caleb, Jephunneh's son. It was Kiriath-arba, that is, Hebron (Arba was the father of Anak).
