Jeremiah 6:12

12 Their homes will be turned over to others, their fields and wives as well. I will stretch out my hand against the people of this land, declares the LORD.

Jeremiah 6:12 Meaning and Commentary

Jeremiah 6:12

And their houses shall be turned unto others
To strangers, to the Chaldeans; they shall be transferred unto them, come into their hands, and become their property: with their fields and wives together:
not only their houses and lands shall be taken away from them, and put to the use of others, but even their wives; than which nothing could be more distressing: for I will stretch out my hand upon the inhabitants of the land, saith
the Lord;
the inhabitants of the land of Judea; and so the Septuagint render it, "upon them that inhabit this land"; and so the Arabic version: wherefore, since the Lord would exert himself in this affair, and stretch out his hand of almighty power, as the Targum paraphrases it,

``I will lift up the stroke of my power;''
it might be depended upon that all this destruction threatened would come on them.

Jeremiah 6:12 In-Context

10 To whom can I speak and warn? How can I get someone's attention? Their ears are shut tight, so they won't hear. They are ashamed of the LORD's word and take no pleasure in it.
11 But I'm filled with the LORD's rage and am tired of holding it in. Pour it out on the children in the streets and on the youths gathered together; husband with wife will be trapped, as will those old and gray.
12 Their homes will be turned over to others, their fields and wives as well. I will stretch out my hand against the people of this land, declares the LORD.
13 From the least to the greatest, each is eager to profit; from prophet to priest, each trades in dishonesty.
14 They treat the wound of my people as if it were nothing: "All is well, all is well," they insist, when in fact nothing is well.
