Leviticus 9:8 Meaning and Commentary

Leviticus 9:8

Aaron therefore went unto the altar
Of burnt offering, freely and cheerfully, at the direction and introduction of Moses, who acted in this affair in the name of the Lord:

and slew the calf of the sin [offering], which [was] for himself;
which was to be offered first, as it was proper it should, that, atonement being made for his sins, his after burnt offering might be accepted with God, and he be fit to offer the sacrifices of the people: the calf he slew on the north side of the altar, where all the sin offerings and burnt offerings were slain; see ( Leviticus 1:11 ) ( 6:25 ) .

Leviticus 9:8 In-Context

6 Moses said, "The LORD has ordered you to do this so that the LORD's glorious presence will appear to you."
7 Moses said to Aaron, "Come up to the altar and perform your purification offering and your entirely burned offering, making reconciliation for yourself and the people. Then perform the people's offering in order to make reconciliation for them, just as the LORD commanded."
8 Aaron went to the altar and slaughtered the young bull for his purification offering.
9 Then Aaron's sons presented the blood to him, and he dipped his finger into the blood and put it on the altar's horns. He poured the rest of the blood out at the altar's base.
10 He completely burned on the altar the fat, kidneys, and lobe of the liver from the purification offering, just as the LORD commanded Moses.
