Or, ye deceive yourselves, etc. Jesus' answer gives the three incapacities of the rationalist: self-deception, Romans 1:21 Romans 1:22 ignorance of the spiritual content of Scripture, Acts 13:27, disbelief in the intervention of divine power, 2 Peter 3:5-9 .

(Greek - nomikov ," "of the law"; occurs also Luke 7:30 ; 10:25 ; Luke 11:45 Luke 11:46 Luke 11:52 ; Luke 14:3 ; Titus 3:13 . Except in the last instance, "lawyer" is another name for "scribe."
